Location/Other:

Tallgrass has a flexible working environment that offers employees the option to choose from compressed weeks with half-day Fridays or every other Friday off and Hybrid options for specific roles. Our spacious Lakewood, CO office offers free parking, an on-site gym, and food trucks every other week! We currently can hire for this position out of the following locations: Lakewood, CO, and nearby areas. The pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting. 

Primary purpose:

To utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to provide analysis, mapping, and technical support to support the safe and compliant operation of Tallgrass Energy’s diverse assets. This includes but is not limited to coordinating updates to systems of record, completing digital and PDF mapping requests, creating data management workflows and processes, provide data analysis as requested by customers. The Senior** GIS Analyst will act as a first-line resource for completing GIS tasks and oversee the coordination and execution of routine and ad-hoc projects, tasks, and requests. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Use Geographical Information Systems (GIS) techniques and design to create system maps of company assets
  • Provide assistance on One Call systems with GIS data updates and support as needed
  • Identify data inaccuracies and make decisions on how to correct and/or improve the data
  • Review as-built survey deliverables from pipeline construction projects to ensure features are mapped accurately and completely based on Tallgrass survey standards.
  • Create and enforce data integrity standards. This may include building tools to automate data QC, conditioning and loading using Python, FME or other standard GIS tools
  • (Senior) Coordinate and review PODS updates performed by contractors and members of the GIS team
  • Performs GIS data capture, data conversion and data entry work using a variety of software including, but not limited to, ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, FME and New Century Software’s Facility Manager
  • Reviews data received from the field or from project closure documentation to ensure PODS data is correct and reviews supporting documentation to correct inaccurate data
  • Maintain integrity of current and incoming database information using quality control procedures
  • Support and/or complete Class and HCA Determination based on 49 CFR Part 192
  • Coordinate structure updates
  • Interact with internal and external customers and vendors to maintain, update and create mapping products, as-built data packages and other datasets to support various process including but not limited to: Class and HCA determination, EFRD, CIS, depth-of-cover surveys, pipeline survey and one-call
  • Design and produce GIS map applications for the distribution, consumption and field collection of data associated with the pipeline, land and other activities either directly or indirectly related to the pipeline. This includes familiarity with ESRI's Collector, Survey123 and Field Maps
  • (Senior) Work closely with the Project Management, ROW and Commercial teams to develop pipeline routes and maps for estimating
  • Create exhibit maps for legal submissions to regulatory agencies
  • (Senior)Create and manage new GIS related data processing tools
  • Maintain the software and databases for, but not limited to, PODS, SDE, ArcGIS Online, One-Call, Public Awareness, Aerial Patrol, & Map Portal
  • Train field operations personnel and other users on GIS related software/hardware packages as needed
  • Support the implementation of the management team’s long-term goals for GIS at Tallgrass
  • Managing the organization of non-PODS data to support Asset Integrity, ROW, Environmental and compliance related tasks
  • Offer assistance and act as a resource/mentor to other members of the GIS team as needed
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited institution in GIS, Geography, Science, Engineering or a related discipline
  • A minimum of two (2 ) years’ work experience with GIS in the energy sector. Five (5 ) years’ experience required in order to be considered for a senior role
  • A minimum of 5- 7 years of direct work experience in GIS and database management may be considered as a substitute for a degree

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of typical GIS best practices and theory
  • Solid understanding of Geographical Information Systems mapping techniques and design
  • (Senior) Experience coordinating requests from Commercial teams in the routing and feasibility of oil and gas pipeline projects
  • Experience with Class/HCA Location Determination, components and characteristics of pipeline material and data associated with the pipelines
  • Experience maintaining data and building maps in ArcGIS Online (AGOL) ArcGIS Portal
  • (Senior) Intermediate experience building tools and automating process using Python
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint
  • (Senior) Advanced understanding of Geographical Information Systems mapping techniques and design
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel)

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Familiarity with Pipeline Database Systems (PODS 4, PODS 7, Utility Network, etc.)
  • Familiarity with New Century Software’s suite of GIS tools
  • Experience implementing and upgrading various components of ESRI’s ArcGIS software
  • (Senior) Advanced understanding of ESRI ArcGIS software (ArcGIS Desktop 10.x or higher, ArcGIS Pro, Enterprise, etc.)
  • Familiarity with PHMSA regulations 49 CFR Parts 192 & 195
  • Knowledge of GIS hardware/software and their function and limitations
  • Familiarity with FERC, PHMSA and NPMS reporting requirements
