The Fallbrook Art Center, a 501(c)(3), is a well-established and highly recognized art center located in San Diego County, California. With 4,000 square feet of exhibition space, Fallbrook Art Center is home to a variety of esteemed visual art shows and exhibitions featuring nationally and internationally recognized artists. The Art Center includes The Find, a unique shop featuring artist-created jewelry, ceramics, wood, fabric arts, and paper arts.

Fallbrook Arts Inc. is a nonprofit organization seeking a Director to manage the business operations of the Fallbrook Art Center.

Primary Responsibilities of the Art Center Director

  • Board Relationship – In collaboration with the Board of Directors, fulfills the mission and vision of the non-profit organization. Attends and participates in discussions at Board meetings; communicates with the Board and provides timely and accurate financial and other information to enable the Board to make informed decisions and engage in strategic planning.
  • Staff Leadership and Management – Cultivates a positive, healthy work culture, including compliance with all workplace policies and procedures. Supervises and evaluates a staff of employees and volunteers.
  • Fundraising/Grant Oversight – In collaboration with the Board of Directors, leads fundraising efforts, including donor development, show sponsorship, grant writing and events.
  • Art Center Facility Operations – Provides management oversight of building operations, maintenance, and related personnel. Coordinates with appropriate board members on facility maintenance, safety, and health-related issues. Provides oversight for all activities and events taking place in the facility.
  • Show/Exhibition Development and Management – Upon Board approval, implements and supervises a variety of shows and exhibitions. This includes contacting artists, securing judges, curating entries, installing the entries and arranging all logistics involved.
  • Fiscal Management –Develops and presents an annual budget for Board approval. Develops and oversees monthly fiscal reports. Completes data entry as agreed upon with the Board treasurer. Works closely with the bookkeeper and Board treasurer to assure accuracy. Oversees the management of all funds in alignment with Board fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Marketing and Communications – Oversees marketing and communications programs to increase the visibility of the Art Center. Ensures consistent branding and messaging in marketing and communications. Collaborates with the Director of the School of the Arts. Speaks to stakeholder groups.

  • Organizational Integrity – In keeping with the values of Fallbrook Arts, Inc., conducts business at the highest standard of integrity to ensure that all activities are in keeping with current legal and ethical standards.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher; or, eight years’ experience in an art related field. Three or more years of art organization experience with increasing responsibilities in management experience such as fundraising; membership growth; artistic successes such as organizing art events/curating exhibitions or other related activities; and/or public relations efforts.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • Results oriented, and ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to communicate the mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community.
  • Solid organizational abilities, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.
  • Experience and confidence in using various data based management tools.

Physical Abilities

Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

Must be able to move portable walls, hang art pieces, carry art pieces up and down
stairs, and move equipment
