Core Requirements:

  • 16 years or older
  • Valid documents proving eligibility to work in the United States
  • Clean criminal record in relation to children and minors (sexual abuse/assault criminal history for ANY age is NOT allowed)
  • Reliable public or private transportation
  • Able to commit to working before and/or after school hours (approximately 7:00 am - 9:30 am PST, and/or 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm; and/or 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm PST)

Job Summary

As a Before and After School Assistant, you will be responsible for presenting materials to children, aged 5-12, and acting as an example of respect, responsibility, honesty and integrity. You will exemplify collaboration, communication, and other social skills to children, and learn valuable leadership skills transferable across industries. Our YMCA programs are located at elementary schools across the Greater Seattle Area, and provide an opportunity for young professionals, high school students, and college students to learn core fundamentals needed for various degree programs, and/or career paths.   • Experience with young children is needed in some manner. This can be experience through babysitting, having younger siblings/relatives/neighbors, experience helping younger children in school, afterschool activities, city sports teams, school-initiated reading programs, tutoring, religious institutions (church/mosque/synagogue/choir/daycare/etc.), volunteer service, educational paths/studies, and/or previous work experience.
  • Experience leading group activities is desired, but not required. Examples include: babysitting, nannying, volunteering with children, leading activities for younger siblings/relatives/schoolmates/etc.
  • What we require:
  • Cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide registry MERIT (at hire).
  • Reliable public or private transportation
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites, as needed, within a small area.
  • Ability to commit to working before and/or after school hours (approximately 7:00 am - 9:30 am PST, and/or 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm; and/or 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm PST)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment, while maintaining a patient and calm demeanor

What you will do:

Supervises a group of up to 15 children to ensure the physical, mental and emotional health; safety and create a positive experience for all of the children

Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures

Presents developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum created by the Y team

Professionally communicates confidential information with parents/guardians

Assists in maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of site

Attends staff meetings and trainings as required
