Bilingual Peer Support Specialist | $38k-$43k/yr DOE
A local health center is searching for a Bilingual Peer Support Specialist to join their growing team! The Bilingual Peer Support Specialist is an active member of the organization and provides peer support services to Clients with major mental illness or substance use disorder. The Bilingual Peer Support Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages, in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process. This position would be working 40 hours per week.
Bilingual Peer Support Specialist Responsibilities:
- Ensure completion of a comprehensive assessment for each consumer to identify needed supports including, but not limited to: rehabilitation services, employment services, housing services, education services, substance abuse services, medical and dental services, housing services, and other activities to help recovery.
- Provide information about medication compliance; assists with application for indigent medication programs or finding sources for medication samples if financially necessary; medication education; etc.
- When serving a consumer in peer support for substance abuse, the Peer Support Specialist actively teaches skill building and concepts necessary to continue toward recovery.
- Responsible for the development of an individualized treatment plan that encompasses the active support/rehabilitative interventions identified in the comprehensive assessment to facilitate active recovery.
- Actively teaches skill building concepts necessary to continue toward recovery.
- Responsible for leading a team to develop strategies to actively engage the consumer in necessary behavioral health treatment, psychiatric rehabilitative services, and other necessary services/supports.
- Provides linkages, referrals, and coordination of necessary services and supports as identified in the individual treatment plan.
- Provides contact as needed with other service provider(s), family members, and/or other significant people in the consumer's life to facilitate the communication necessary to support he consumer in community living.
- Provides support and intervention to the consumer in times of crisis and if hospitalization becomes necessary, facilitates in cooperation with the inpatient provider, the consumer's transition back into the community with appropriate revisions of the individual treatment plan.
- The Peer Support Specialist establishes hours of service delivery that ensures program staff are accessible and responsive to the needs of the consumer. Scheduled services may include evening and weekend hours.
- Assist with quality assurance
To become a Bilingual Peer Support Specialist, you’ll need:
- Must be bilingual (English / Spanish)
- Minimum of AA Degree or like experience.
- Previous direct experience with mental health and/or substance use services.
- State of Nebraska Peer Support Specialist Certification Preferred, must become certified within one year of hire
- Ability to successfully pass criminal and transportation background check
- Valid Driver’s License
