Nokia is committed to innovation and technology leadership across mobile, fixed and cloud networks. Your career here will have a positive impact on people’s lives and will help us build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive world.

We challenge ourselves to create an inclusive way of working where we are open to new ideas, empowered to take risks and fearless to bring our authentic selves to work.

The team you'll be part of

Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.

The Data and Devices Group aims to develop the devices and AI that will seamlessly integrate the physical world and human physiology into the future network of everything. We develop innovative materials, devices, and machine learning techniques that can continuously and non-invasively interface, sense, and actuate the physical world. We emphasize individual creativity and value both fundamental research contributions and advances that could potentially expand Nokia’s human-centric product offerings.

What you will learn and contribute to

You will have the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary research group with access to equipment and expertise in the areas of chemistry, biology, physics, optics and electronics. As part of our team, you will:

  • Design and implement state-of-the-art bio-imaging and remote spectroscopy systems for human and environmental sensing
  • Prototype new optical biosensors for internal demonstrations and external partners
  • Work with a wide array of internal and external collaborators on high impact biosensing applications
  • Publish research findings in high-impact academic journals and conferences
  • File patents on inventions in optical sensing technology

Your skills and experience

You have:

  • Ph.D. in optics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, or related field
  • Willingness to contribute with creative, out-of-the-box solutions to problems arising in a dynamic environment

It would be nice if you had one or more of the following:

  • Experience in biological/biomedical applications, both in vitro and in vivo
  • Hands-on experience designing and building confocal microscopy, optical coherence tomography, Raman imaging, spectroscopy, and/or non-linear optical systems
  • Expertise in free-space optical alignment, fiber-optic systems, MEMS, and integrated photonics
  • Experience with cell/tissue culture and analysis
  • Rapid prototyping skills, including 3D CAD design, 3D printing, PCB design and assembly

What we offer

Nokia offers flexible and hybrid working schemes, continuous learning opportunities, well-being programs to support you mentally and physically, opportunities to join and get supported by employee resource groups, mentoring programs and highly diverse teams with an inclusive culture where people thrive and are empowered.
