Job purpose
The Clinical/Crisis Therapist is responsible for providing quality individual/group therapy to person(s)-served of the center in a timely and responsible manner. The Clinical/Crisis Therapist may also be involved in intake duties, consultation, and referral development. Further duties may include collaboration with the Intensive Care Coordinator's and Director on policies and procedures, program development and continuous quality improvement measures. In addition, the Clinical/Crisis Therapist will complete civil commitments when necessary.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
- Must have all necessary course work and meet all requirements to be licensed within the State of Missouri, at minimum be eligible to begin supervision.
- Must meet the Department of Mental Health's criteria for Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHP).
- Meet the minimum requirements to be clinically privileged by FCC Behavioral Health.
Core Job Duties
- Conducts individual/group therapy sessions with assigned person(s)-served and/or the person(s)-served family.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the DSM and familiarity with the diagnostic criteria sets of all substance use and mental disorders.
- Ability to stay current in education and research regarding therapeutic strategies.
- Follow's up with all no-shows who have attended three (3) or more sessions, by telephone or individualized letter.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all civil involuntary detention procedures.
- Formally present cases in crisis staffing as assigned.
- Completes all treatment plans, progress notes and social assessments in a timely fashion.
- Maintains an accurate and up-to-date records of person(s)-served as outlined in the agency and site Policies and Procedure Manuals.
- Provide weekly reports in staffing about new person(s)-served admissions and person(s)-served receiving therapeutic services that require team advice.
- Ability to demonstrates a caring and compassionate approach to person(s)-served care.
- Ability to be accepting of individual differences among person(s)-served.
- Ability to interact tactfully and diplomatically with a variety of audiences, including frustrated, angry or otherwise emotional individuals.
- In conjunction with the individual, family and/or significant other, identifying risk factors related to relapse in health, mental illness and/or substance use disorders and develop a plan with strategies to support recovery and prevent relapse.
- Ensure individuals gain access to necessary rehabilitation services, general entitlement benefits, housing, schools, employment, legal services, wellness or other services and gain skills in independently accessing needed services.
- Provide holistic, person-centered care with emphasis on harm reduction and use of motivational approaches that promote active participation in decision making and self-advocacy in all aspects of services and recovery/resiliency.
- Contacting individuals in crisis situations including locating and coordinating resources to resolve a crisis.
- Ensuring communication and coordination with and between multiple service providers.
- Ability to effectively utilize computer systems currently employed by FCC.
- Maintain/improve professional competencies through training activities and/or other educational means.
- Maintain awareness regarding the agency vision and assist staff in continuing motivation and empowerment.
- Participates in clinical staffing of person(s)-served to include attendance of meetings and/or written notes regarding person(s)-served cooperation and participation with program expectations.
- Consistently complies with supervisory directives as it applies to enforcement of facility policies and procedures with person(s)-served.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of diagnostic criteria sets for substance use and/or mental disorders.
- Development of the individualized recovery care plan for assigned person(s)-served with SMART goals, objectives and interventions.
- Treatment plan review forms completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Progress notes written accurately using the PIRP format and in compliance with the 5-Day Rule (and/or site policy)
- Discharge/Transition/Aftercare Summary completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Listen to others to facilitate an open exchange of ideas and provide for effective communication.
- Orally communicate information effectively and accurately.
- Assure program operates within the constraints of the agency's certification (CARF, DMH) standards and strategic plan related to clinical care.
- Maintain confidentiality, at all times, within the legal framework. Will adhere to established guidelines regarding confidentiality as well as the agency's adopted code of ethics.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of person(s)-served as outlined in the agency and site Policies and Procedure Manuals.
- Maintain acceptable attendance record, respect break periods and work with supervisor to ensure coverage during any absence.
- Exhibit a professional appearance, attitude and demeanor that reflects confidence, positive self-esteem and overall professionalism when working with person(s)-served, co-workers, families and referral sources.
- Demonstrate initiative and a 'can do' attitude.
