The City of Central Point is seeking to hire a Community Planner I, II or III to join the

Community Development Department's Planning Team.

We are a small team serving a medium size community that seeks to maintain its small town feel and livability as it grows. Over the next 5-year period, the Planning Team's focus will be on refreshing its long-range planning program to align with the community's preferred vision for its future and recently adopted State rules concerning Climate Friendly & Equitable Communities while maintaining an efficient and professional development review program. A key component of this work plan will include developing a Geographic Information System (GIS) program to streamline database management, conduct in-house spatial analysis and provide real-time public information regarding land use and development the City.

The Community Planner I will perform entry-level planning activities and duties onsite and in the field with a focus on current planning and customer support and assisting senior staff with long-range planning projects.

The Community Planner II will perform professional land use activities of moderate to advanced difficulty. The Community Planner II is expected to have in-depth knowledge within at least one planning specialty area, such as housing, environmental planning, or urban design. This position is characterized by an elevated level of required duties and responsibilities as compared to a Community Planner I.

The Community Planner III performs advanced professional planning activities that are highly complex and varied. The Community Planner III is distinguished from the Community Planner II in that assignments are more complex and technical. The Community Planner III must be skilled in presenting complex information on sometimes controversial issues to appointed and elected bodies and the public at large. The Community Planner III is expected to possess a higher level of expertise, knowledge and skill than the Community Planner II.

JOB DUTY REQUIREMENTS:

Driver License: Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record at the time of hire required and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

Minimum Required Qualifications - Planner I, II, III:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning or closely related field (i.e. Geography)
  • Land use planning experience or work experience of a similar scope of responsibilities (minimum two years of experience)

Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the requirement

Preferred/Special Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the ability to read and interpret maps.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

Planner I:

Salary range: $4,644 - $6,225 monthly Grade "7" of the Compensation Pay Plan (hourly equivalent $26.79 - $35.91 per hour)


Planner II:

Salary range: $5,195 - $6,960 monthly Grade "8" of the Compensation Pay (hourly equivalent $29.97 - $40.15 per hour)


Planner III:

Salary range: $5,455 - $7,308 monthly Grade "9" of the Compensation Pay (hourly equivalent $31.47 - $42.16 per hour)


Up to $450 (per month) Additional Certification, Bilingual, and Education Pay per collective bargaining agreement.
