SUMMARY


The Controls Technician will be responsible for the support, troubleshooting and integration of automated manufacturing process control systems in the development of new automated lines and system. This position will provide engineering expertise to R&D, various plants, and management personnel in identifying and solving technical process issues. This position will also provide support for the design, commissioning, and startup of small-to-large scale capital expenditure projects in conjunction with Plant personal. Technical assistance will require basic understanding of plant power distribution systems and process/machinery control systems. A practical level of understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles are to be applied to assigned project work.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing process equipment and control systems.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to plant-level Maintenance, Production/Operations, and management personnel.
  • Project management input to assist project members the ability to define and accurately build and manage a project schedule with all departments and entities across business to ensure projects are well executed.
  • Design using the latest hardware and software components, design machine control systems to maximize equipment productivity and assure all code requirements and safety standards are strictly met.
  • Travel to Carlisle Medical Technologies facilities outside of home base office, in support of project planning, equipment installation, startup, and training.
  • Recommend vendors and internal design capabilities to create custom automation solutions, ranging from turn-key systems to individual automation components. Must be able to communicate professionally with customers and vendors.
  • Provide support to CMT production engineers and process engineers to manage the process start up and validation activities.
  • Contribute to discussions between leadership and key stakeholders to determine automation capabilities and goals.
  • Help develop list of approved automation vendors.
  • Research new technologies and methodologies to use in current / future projects. Help drive automation strategy by developing platform technologies that can be leveraged across projects.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A Degree from technical school, or industrial maintenance certifications (PLC, Machine Logic, etc), or equivalent and/or 5+ years’ experience in a similar position. Manufacturing or medical/pharmaceutical industry experience preferred – primarily with mechanical components or component / device manufacturing.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with emphasis on active listening and technical documentation.
  • Programming of basic control system logic (ladder logic, structured text, function block)
  • Configuration and tuning of variable frequency drives (VFDs)
  • Interpretation of electrical/controls drawings
  • Interpretation of mechanical design drawings for electrical requirements
  • Understanding and evaluation of component, equipment, or installation proposals
  • Utilize and interpret technical data sheets and manuals.
  • Basic project management skills
  • Basic problem-solving skills
  • Basic analytical comparison and value judgment skills
  • Able to travel internationally.
  • Broad engineering abilities and understanding of electrical, mechanical, and mfg/industrial engineering disciplines.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks and/or Creo is desired.
  • At least one of the following required:
    • Injection molding, extrusion, or thermoforming with secondary assembly experience
    • Medical Assembly experience including validation knowledge.
    • Precision assembly requiring high degree of process qualification.
  • Proficient with MS Word, MS Excel & MS PowerPoint
