Will you help hard working San Franciscans get reimbursed for their health care?

We're looking for an experienced data analyst to improve the accuracy of our outreach and answer important business questions for the San Francisco Medical Reimbursement Account (SF MRA) program. We need someone with strong SQL skills, a good understanding of relational databases, the ability to develop detailed business requirements and fine-tuned attention to detail to check datasets for accuracy.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Collaborate with colleagues with different levels of data literacy on the business side, as well as data engineers and other Insights & Analytics team members, to gather business requirements.
• Learn about the numerous datamart tables and fields that house information on the SF MRA program, and combine this with your understanding of relational databases, so that you can write precise requirements and compare new datasets to existing ones.
• Accurately write moderately sophisticated SQL queries, in a way that is easy for another analyst to understand, so that you can answer business questions quickly.
• Stay engaged with a complex data problem through to resolution.
• Review your own and others’ work to catch obvious and not-so-obvious errors.
• Learn about the SF MRA program, so that you are well placed to understand business needs and recommend appropriate data sources and analysis plans.
• Grow with us. Over time, build on your core data analysis skills to take on more challenging work using a broader array of data tools.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

• A Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2-3 years experience writing SQL queries to extract data from a relational database management system like SQL Server.
• Professional experience using one or more other data tools like Tableau, Power BI, Stata, R or Python.
• Interest in understanding reasonably large and complex databases.
• Logical thinking and attention to detail.
• Enjoys analyzing data and solving data problems.
• Interest in getting health care funding to people who’ve earned it.
• For bonus points: experience writing and implementing test cases for situations where real data are not sufficient to confirm the accuracy of a table or report.
