POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Garden Programs Leader leads purposeful projects and programming for volunteers in the YMCA Greenhouse. The Garden Programs Leader encourages and aids volunteers in maintaining a beautiful greenhouse for YMCA members and community members to enjoy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Directs and supervises program activities to ensure proper maintenance and harvesting of the greenhouse and garden.
  • Recruits, trains, develops, schedules, and directs volunteers as needed to keep the greenhouse and garden in beautiful condition
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists in the development, distribution, and organization of program information and registrations.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in garden programs.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and YMCA members, modeling relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Coordinates use of garden and greenhouse for program activities and events.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1-3 years of gardening experience.
    • Formal training preferred
  • Completion of YMCA required training upon hire
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move around the greenhouse, and work on the ground, for long periods of time
  • The employee is regularly required to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
  • The employee is regularly required to bend, lean, kneel, and walk within the greenhouse
  • The employee is regularly required to work outdoors for extended periods of time
  • The employee is regularly required to engage with others through oral comprehension and expression
  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

STARTING PAY: $15.74/hr
