Job Summary

Design, develop, test, and evaluate integrated systems for managing industrial production processes, including human work factors, quality control, inventory control, logistics and material flow, cost analysis, and production coordination. Work with government, industrial, and/or in-house designers to refine product designs to increase producibility and decrease costs.

Lead excellence activities, to include Lean methodologies and Kaizen events, to align organizational goals and improvement efforts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Estimate production costs, cost saving methods, and the effects of product design changes on expenditures for management review, action, and control.
  • Plan and establish sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products and to promote efficient utilization.
  • Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product.
  • Confer with clients, vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, product and production specifications, manufacturing capabilities, or project status.
  • Communicate with management and user personnel to develop production and design standards.
  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
  • Investigate or resolve operational problems, such as material use variances or bottlenecks.
  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve manufacturing processes or products or to reduce costs, using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials, and parts.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.
  • Collect and analyze production samples to evaluate quality.
  • Analyze quality control test results and provide feedback and interpretation to production management or staff.
  • Stop production if serious product defects are present.
  • Monitor performance of quality control systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Communicate quality control information to all relevant organizational departments, outside vendors, or contractors.
  • Train and lead team in the development of: Bill of Materials, Process Flows, Work Instructions, FMEAs, etc.
  • Identify and implement Capital Projects (CAPEX): develop 5-year strategic out capex needs
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance; conduct major assignments in business operations with minimal direction.
  • Other occupational duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
• Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
• Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or similar degree.
  • 5 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of auditing and reviewing manufacturing operations
  • Knowledge of standard quality system requirements
  • Working knowledge of DoD 4145, DOD Contractor’s Safety Manual for Ammunition and Explosives
  • Working knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM)
  • Knowledge and understanding of statistical concepts and how to apply them to development and production processes
