Overview:
About the role:

The Littleton Quarry Manager reports to the Aggregates Operations Manager and oversees quarry and recycle operations in a manner that sufficient quantities and quality of aggregates are produced to meet internal and external customer demands. The Quarry Manager ensures that mine operations are conducted in a safe manner that meet local, state, federal and Company requirements, and operates the site in an environmentally sound manner within established budgets and business excellence expectations.


The Quarry Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing site activities according to strict deadlines and within budget for site maintenance and approved capital activities. They have direct accountability for execution of in-field production, are capable of making decisions independently and oversee implementation of projects and / or initiatives. The Quarry Manager anticipates maintenance issues and proposes solutions to deliver on site performance and budget. Their role is collaborative with the Regional Maintenance and Performance Managers to define maintenance objectives and drive site improvements, as well as with the Quality Control Manager to ensure production of aggregates meets specification criteria.
Responsibilities:
What you'll be doing:

  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership of and commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety and environmental policies in all work areas
  • Responsible for all aspects of mining operations including supervision, safety quality, technical support and sales-production balance
  • Monitor and forecast quarry operations cost performance on a weekly and monthly basis and delivery on established budgetary goals.
  • Consistently identify new operational opportunities and develop strategies for accomplishing the attainment of improved efficiency and productivity.
  • Responsible for maintaining local, state (MA) and federal (MSHA) required documentation.
  • Oversee development of the mine plan to support mine production requirements.
  • Train employees and assist with performing preventative maintenance and repairs, as needed
  • Assures parts and services provided are within budgetary guidelines and are aligned with MSHA regulations, applicable federal and state laws, and Company policies.
  • Responsible for managing salary, hourly employees and hourly employees under Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Ensure personal growth and development within mine organization through training and communication
  • Ensure growth and development of direct reports and hourly employees
  • Ensure continuing efforts towards optimization and improvement of mine production, maintenance and safety practices.
  • Maintain high level of synergy with plant operations, maintenance and performance organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

  • Interacts with Operations Manager for supervision and direction.
  • Collaborates with management team to ensure operational excellence and timely execution of related site projects, including but not limited to Regional Performance Manager, Regional Maintenance Manager, Aggregates Project Manager, and Quality Control Manager.
  • Direct supervision of collective bargaining employees and third parties to complete maintenance, capital projects and to meet production requirements.

Education:
Bachelor’s / Undergraduate Degree preferred

Additional Education Preferred: Master’s/Graduate Degree

Field of Study Preferred: Mining, Geological Science, Engineering or Construction

Required Work Experience: 5 - 7 years in mechanical repair, installation and construction in an aggregates plant or comparably industry-related environment. 5 - 7 years of mine management experience with direct budgetary oversight. Must be a proven successful quarry manager with experience in aggregate processing and manufacturing or related industry. Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods. Extensive knowledge of local and federal industry regulatory standards related to construction, permitting, mobile equipment and safety. Working knowledge of MassDEP regulatory requirements.

Required Training/Certifications: 40 hour MSHA, First Aid / CPR

Licenses Preferred: MA DL

Required Computer and Software Skills: Must be proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Google Drive Suite (Sheets, Docs, Slides, etc), and strongly prefer familiarity with business management software (e.g. SAP)

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel within Massachusetts

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order
    to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
