Job Description
Responsible for assessing injuries and providing pre-hospital and intra-hospital advanced life support care until patient care is relinquished to the accepting facility. Work is performed under the supervision of the Lieutenant. Essential Functions

Assess patient condition and initiate treatment; initiate I.V."s; intubate, defibrillate, and administer drips and medications per medical protocol as determined by the Medical Program Director.
Thoroughly prepare documentation to complete electronic Patient Care Reports (ePCR) that satisfies departmental requirements for medical accuracy, billing information, and legal aspects related to care delivery.
Review and advise personnel assigned to their respective shift regarding documentation requirements.
Responsible for oversight of EMS specific activities/progress for new hires/probationary personnel.
Provide leadership and guidance to shift for medical-related issues.
Demonstrate punctual, regular, and reliable attendance essential for successful job performance.
Present a positive, professional image; maintain cooperative and effective working relationships; Assure excellent customer service with internal and external customers.
Execute assignments, projects, and job responsibilities efficiently and within defined timeframes; work independently and effectively with little direction.
Demonstrate good judgment and employ critical thinking to execute duties, identify issues, seek solutions, and recommend improvements in support of departmental goals.
Aid staff and higher-level management; participate in resolving operational or interpersonal concerns; participate in training, meetings, and on committees as assigned.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Fire suppression and prevention principles and practices.
Identify fire hazards and causes.
Perform duties of a Firefighter with knowledge of pump and hydraulic operations, work in potentially dangerous situations.
Oral and written communication skills, including record keeping techniques and report writing.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy with customers and employees.
Technical aspects of field of specialty.
Principles of training and providing work direction.
Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Perform lead person supervisory duties of firefighting and EMS personnel.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
Prolonged and strenuous work in adverse conditions including heavy physical labor.
Operate assigned equipment required to perform specific tasks.
Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as necessary.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Physical Requirements
Physical Requirements - Indoor and outdoor environment; adverse weather conditions; subject to working around and inhalation of fumes and smoke; working with people with unknown medical problems; working at heights; extreme weather conditions; exposure to contagious diseases and blood; working with hostile or abusive individuals. Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
AEM or CEM Certifications preferred.
Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Position is an on-call position and employee is subject to call back on a 24/7 basis as needed.

Specialized fire apparatus, fire vehicles, ambulances equipment and apparatus; pumps, hoses, and related
hydraulic equipment; self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA); specialized tools and equipment to save lives,
protect property, suppress fires.
