Departmental Overview

The Center for Interdisciplinary Critical Inquiry (CICI) fosters cross-divisional, cross-regional and global collaborations in order to address the key political, social, religious and cultural issues of our time. We are committed to thinking creatively across an array of fields to develop a capacious vision of the arts and the human and social sciences, in relation to critical thought, justice and ethics. CICI is home to the Berkeley Center for the Student of Religion, The Critical Theory Program, and the Digital Humanities program.

The Program Coordinator position will support all aspects of the one-year exploratory grant entitled "Imagining Beyond Authoritarianism: Race and Gender in our Times," housed within the Center for Interdisciplinary Critical Inquiry at UC Berkeley, and funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation with a budget of $150,000. During the twelve-month period that comprises the grant, the main activities would be to set up collaborative meetings with key institutions in the US that would help to stage lectures, exhibitions (film, installations, performance pieces), and ongoing public discussions. We would like to plan with each institution a public lecture or discussion on race and gender in new authoritarianism, an exhibition or performance, and a final panel discussion with audience participation on what they have heard and seen. Each event would be planned with an accessible reading list for audiences, and the final part of each sequence will be an open discussion or public seminar.

This position will be responsible for budget and expense tracking and management, travel and accommodations for the co-PIs and their delegates, as well as planning, budgeting and executing events associated with the grant's activities. There will also be meetings with local arts institutions, as well as travel to other institutions that are out-of-state.

Responsibilities

Manages all programmatic, planning and administrative aspects of the Mellon Exploratory Grant on Authoritarianism in the Center for Interdisciplinary Critical Inquiry at UC Berkeley.
Oversees the planning and implementation of the programmatic activities of the grant. Assesses and analyzes the grant terms, makes recommendations to the Co-PIs on policies and procedures, and formulates strategic directions for the programmatic activities. Assists with the creation of a budget and proposal for a multi- year grant, following the initial exploratory grant.
Responsible for managing the $150K grant budget, which is funded solely by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Works to ensure that grant funds are utilized in accordance with the budget set forth in the approved proposal. In partnership with appropriate campus reporting units, meets all Mellon Foundation reporting requirements with respect to budget and project delivery. Keeps co-PIs apprised of the financial status of the program and makes recommendations on allocation of fund balances to meet project goals. Applies advanced working knowledge of campus contracts and grants policies and procedures including proposal preparation and award administration.
Plans, budgets, and executes all programmatic events associated with the grant, including making travel and accommodation arrangements, sourcing venues and catering, obtaining necessary permits, and processing vendor payments and reimbursements.
May need recruit to event assistance from CICI staff, this should be requested in advance and approved by Center Manager.
Manages, plans, and develops web presence and communications, including an initial webpage and publicity for public-facing events.
Works with PIs, advisory board, and CICI Communications Lead to assess needs and expand content and functionality to meet the program's goals.
Participates in Center staff and planning meetings, and reports progress to Center Manager.
May be asked to participate in ad hoc meetings with outside constituents, members of the Dean's Office etc.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs. Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail. Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Salary & Benefits

This is a 12-month, (24 hours/week), contract appointment, eligible for UC benefits. This is a non-exempt, hourly paid position.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.06 - $37.36.
