Scope:

Consistent with Company standards, the Propane Technician Trainee will oversee the installation, tracking, and safety of the company's propane assets. The Technician will work independently with onsite and/or remote support and direction from Plant Managers and more senior service personnel.

Significant Activities & Deliverables:

  • Reduce company's Cost of Risk. Ensure that company and government safety, policy and regulatory standards are met at all times and maintain zero preventable accidents.

  • Maintain customer information, safety and compliance records using physical and electronic file systems

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair propane distribution systems

  • Deliver propane fuel as required. Follow loading and unloading procedures.

  • Maintain delivery and service vehicles. Review maintenance records, perform pre-& post trip inspections. Report needed repair and certification issues.

  • Meet established performance metrics such as billable time, productivity, percentage of assets touched and efficient usage of inventory and equipment. Treat propane technician responsibilities as a profit center.

  • Maintain daily trip logs, shipping papers, system test documentation and related information.

  • Maintain excellent customer service standards including respectful image and tact. Address customer service issues and strive to maintain zero service related complaints.

  • Create job estimates.

  • Develop and supply sales leads. Accompany sales team on propane related sales calls.

  • Observe, learn and apply knowledge and skills handed down from more experienced technicians and provide guidance to less experienced techs or drivers.

  • Provide training to customers, drivers and staff

  • Pursue additional CETP certifications - dispenser installation, vapor distribution systems installation and operation, etc.

  • Assist with other technical projects i.e. lube and fuel tank sets, plant maintenance issues.

  • Propane tank and LP equipment installations

  • Propane tank maintenance/service/diagnostics of valves, seals, meters, registers, vaporizers, heaters, appliances, pumps, motors, etc.

  • Gas Piping installations

  • Knowledgeable in gas pipe fitting

  • Knowledgeable in commercial electrical

  • Complete understanding of NFPA 54 and NFPA 58 LPG Code

  • Perform Leak checks/pressure tests and other required inspections

  • Knowledgeable in LP appliance service

  • Safely operating boom/crane trucks

  • Maintain adequate parts inventory

  • Perform vehicle inspections

  • Complete proper documentation including equipment agreements, service orders, safety documentation, dispenser training, leak check forms.

  • On Call duties including nights and weekends to respond to leaks/out of gas situations

  • Able and willing to drive a bobtail to deliver propane as needed

  • Perform site surveys on new customer installations

  • Certified in CETP modules 1&2 for bobtail deliveries, 3 for plant operations, 4 for vapor distribution systems, 5 for dispensers

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School, GED equivalent or higher

  • Excellent internal and external customer service

  • Clean driving record

  • Self-Starter and often self-supervised

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Outdoor environment

  • Ability to lift 75+ lbs

  • Regular exposure to the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow), fumes, dust and odors

  • Able to dig, climb and access confined spaces

  • Extended and on call hours required at times to support business requirements, including some weekends and holidays

  • PPE requirements including steel toes boots, hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, gloves, ear protection, and cold protection
