SCHEDULE: Variable days from 6:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., occasional weekends

RESPONSIBILITES:

Obtains and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms and psychological needs.

Re-assesses patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention. Implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs.

Develops and implements a measurable individualized plan of care for the patient within time frames established by Nursing Standards of Care. Make comprehensive nursing decisions based on interpretation of data and evaluation of patient outcomes; then modifies plan of care based on evaluations.

Participates in patient and significant other’s health education and discharge planning.

Responds to interpretation of cardiac rhythms along with patient assessment and intervening with emergency protocols when needed. Responds to cardiac/respiratory arrest situations.

Coordinates team assignments and makes adjustments based upon patient and department needs; follows up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness.

Functions as resource to visitors, physicians and staff; greets them promptly and courteously.

Participates in orientation of new staff and/or students in the department.

Assumes role of patient advocate respecting guidelines found in Patient Bill of Rights.

Communicates with patient, significant others and health professionals regarding care to patient, while maintaining confidentiality of patient record and patient, whether verbal or written.

Utilizes appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.

Participates in staff meetings and PI Plan to improve organizational performance and achieve department and organizational goals.

May assume charge responsibilities on assigned shift in the absence of regular Charge RN after demonstration of competency.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana. Med/Surg experience preferred. BLS required and ACLS preferred.
