POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a driven and talented candidate to join our Analytical and Formulation Development group in La Jolla, CA. In this role, the Research Associate will focus on the execution of LC-UV and LC-MS for protein assays. As a contributor, s/he will collaborate with other functional groups in support of platform development, strain engineering, upstream, and downstream process development based on defined project goals and within established timelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform routine protein titer and fidelity assays using LC-UV and LC-MS.

• Participate in assay development and carry out protein-based assays (BCA, nanodrop, CE-SDS, ELISA).

• Perform daily & weekly operator maintenance on instruments used in support of method development and routine sample analysis and perform troubleshooting with vendor technical support as needed.

• Manage and maintain required reagents and laboratory environment to carry out assignments.

• Prepare analytical reports and present scientific results in team, project, and inter-site meetings as needed.

• Collaborate with internal teams and provide support to different functional groups as needed.

• Author and maintain Standard Operating Procedures.

• Maintain electronic laboratory notebook adhering to good documentation standards.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• B.S. in a physical or biological science related field plus a minimum of 1 year relevant industry experience

• Hands-on experience with LC based assays (RP, SEC, IEX) is required.

• Proficiency with the use of chromatography data systems for acquisition method setup, data acquisition, and data processing (e.g. Chromeleon) is required.

• Experience in LC-MS analysis of intact proteins is highly desirable.

• Ability to follow SOPs and perform testing in a highly accurate and reproducible manner.

• Excellent organization skills, detailed oriented, ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects according to established timelines.

• Effective problem solving/troubleshooting skills required.

• Familiarity with protein/peptide assay development and optimization is a plus.

• Experience in CE for the separation of proteins will be beneficial.

• Excellent computer skills, proficiency with MS office.

• Good oral and written communication skills.
