- The Retail Pharmacist is required to support and coordinate functions efficiently to meet customer expectations and needs. All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures, guidelines and regulatory requirements within the department and respective legal authorities.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
- Receives and reviews written orders to verify appropriateness of dose regarding patient’s age, weight and allergies. Screens for potential drug interactions. Enters or verifies medication orders into the pharmacy computer profile system.
- Ensures compliance with the Clinical Pharmacy program and protocols established within the Department and Facility
- Maintains the records as required for orders filled or processed for patients.
- Produces and affixes labels to containers showing identification data and directions for use if applicable
- Compounds extemporaneous products using correct techniques and formulas. Labels and fills out required controls for all compounding requirements.
- Ensures compliant filling and dispensing of all controlled substance medications
- On a monthly basis, ensures checking of all appropriate locations for outdated medications.
- Supervises and inspects all prepackaging procedures and filled requisitions completed by the pharmacy technician.
- Is responsible for the maintenance and proper operation of equipment within the department
- Provides drug information to physicians, nurse staff, patients and other staff as needed.
- Initiates and completes adverse drug reaction reports.
- Develops and maintains professional rapport with department customers and co-workers. Treat one another professionally and courteously. Engage in a teamwork approach where honesty and cooperation are an everyday occurrence. Offer positive feedback to co-workers.
- Participates in cross-training experiences and continuing education as requested.
- Actively participates in the Quality improvement program by assisting in identifying, documenting, monitoring, evaluating, and taking corrective action for quality improvement. Actively prepares for and participates in all regulatory inspections/surveys. Approaches work in a manner that makes quality improvement a part of every activity.

- Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Complies and enforces the CCH Standards of Excellence
- Provides oversight, supervision, and guidance to Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Technicians-in-Training, Pharmacy Externs, Pharmacy Interns, and Pharmacy operations as a whole in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and laws.
- Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education: Doctorate of Pharmacy degree.
- Licensure: Registered Pharmacist in the State of Wyoming in good standing.
- Maintain 12 hours of ACPE continuing education annually
- Certifications required: See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.
- Experience: Experience in institutional practice desirable, but not necessary.
- Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Hand/eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills, able to speak clearly, computer skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: Good interpersonal skills needed to work with staff and physicians. Maintains respectful working relationships with co-workers and encourages the team approach.
- Essential Physical Requirements: The work routine requires overhead reaching, manual and finger dexterity, the ability to stand, walk long periods of time and be able to push a mobile cart (25 lbs.) while making routine pharmacist rounds to the various patient floors.
- Essential Mental Abilities: Able to prioritize multiple details simultaneously. Able to trouble-shoot problems. Analytical, interpretive skills. Requires higher level of short- and long-term mental faculties accompanied by long- and short-term memory.
- Essential Sensory Requirements: Eye/hand coordination, corrected vision, hearing to normal range.
- Able to respond to emergent situations and changing priorities in an effective way. Uses time to departmental advantage to ensure efficiency in completion of assigned tasks. Avoids non-productive activities during work time.
- Other: Available for sick leave coverage and PTO coverage.
