Job Overview

The Fred and Clara Eckert Foundation for Children is a private operating foundation whose primary charitable purpose is operating Eckert a residential substance use disorder treatment program for adolescents in Williston, North Dakota. Eckert provides quality services which encourage the spiritual, educational, behavioral, emotional, and physical development of children and their families. Eckert's core values are Faith, Integrity, Excellence, and Caring.

The Spiritual Life Director is responsible for assisting administration and staff in transforming Eckert’s Mission Statement and Values from paper into real life application. The Spiritual Life Director shall provide leadership and oversight of spiritual life programing that will help our youth and staff learn attitudes and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christians. The Spiritual Life Director will also provide spiritual guidance to clients and staff who are seeking support in their faith journey.

The Spiritual Life Director shall assist with the daily Spirituality and Recovery group and may be called on to facilitate the Morals and Values group as well.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • The Spiritual Life Director will make personal connections and relationships with all youth, staff and stakeholders;
  • The Spiritual Life Director will assist with leading the Spirituality and Recovery group;
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for all aspects of spiritual formation for the facility;
  • Provide pastoral counseling to our youth and staff;
  • The Spiritual Life Director will work with a team of people who are charged with the spiritual, educational, behavioral, emotional, and physical development of the children and youth in Eckert’s care;
  • The Spiritual Life Director will attend all required training, with a minimum of 20 hours of training per year.

Supervisory Responsibility

The Spiritual Life Director will not be responsible for supervising any staff.

Work Environment
This job is performed in two residential style homes for treatment of adolescents with substance abuse disorders. Youth may come from a background that includes trauma and possibly mental health diagnosis which may result in behaviors that include physically acting out and discourteous language. This position involves frequent movement throughout a two-story home.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and occasionally carry items weighing less than 50 pounds. The employee may also be required to participate in activities with the youth such as basketball, walking and exercising. The employee will be required to walk up and down stairs frequently.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work will vary depending on the needs of the youth in our program. This position regularly requires long hours and some weekend work.

Travel

Travel out of town is not typically required for this position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in theology, religious studies, pastoral care, counseling or another closely related field or a Master’s Degree with an emphasis in Divinity, Theology, Administration, Spiritual Direction or Pastoral care;
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience working with at risk youth;
  • The Spiritual Life Director must have the ability to effectively reach and guide a diverse group of people;
  • Be 21 years of age or older;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance and professionalism;
  • The ability to work effectively with the treatment team and other stakeholders;
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn our electronic health record program and intermediate to advanced level of computer skills;
  • Ability to pass an employee physical, criminal background check, TB screening and drug screen.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Have no child abuse or child neglect charges

Pay: $50,000.00 - $53,000.00 per year
