A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A THERAPIST

As a counselor, you support clients with therapeutic counseling. You may also offer quality substance use treatment services to clients and their families through individual, family, and educational therapeutic modalities. Meeting with clients one-to-one, you collect information based on the Clinical Diagnostic Assessment (CDA) at first appointment to assess service needs and treatment development.

With the information that you collected from the assessment, you update diagnostic impressions and develop a treatment plan. You provide psychotherapy that relates to the established treatment goals. To ensure that a client is progressing toward their goals, you monitor their progress and adjust services as needed.

Being detail-oriented, you maintain client files and thoroughly document the events of the therapeutic process. You also complete paperwork after each visit that includes notes and billing. Your position is highly collaborative. To provide the best care possible, you collaborate with other therapists, service providers, and community partners. You gain a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction with the vital services that you provide to our community.

THERAPIST QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related mental health field
  • Licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) or professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Wisconsin
    • In-training licenses may be considered

Eligibility for reimbursement from Medicare is preferred, but multiple factors will be taken into consideration. Do you build trusting interpersonal relationships? Are you an active listener with strong communication skills? Is emotional intelligence your strong suit? Are you collaborative? If yes, you would be the perfect fit for our therapist position!

THERAPIST WORK SCHEDULE

Your typical full-time counseling schedule is Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. To provide flexible services, at least six sessions are required after 3:45 pm weekly to accommodate clients who are in need of late afternoon, early evening appointments. You may be asked to provide therapy in other settings outside of the clinic, such as at a school.
