New Mexico State University at Alamogordo (NMSU-A) is a comprehensive community college located in the foothills, at the base of the Sacramento Mountains. This vantage point overlooks the city of Alamogordo and the Tularosa Basin. The service area of the school includes Holloman Air Force Base (HAFB), White Sands Missile Range, and stretches beyond the view to include the Mescalero Apache Reservation and approximately twenty villages and towns. Much of the south-central New Mexico region benefits from the convenient location of the campus. NMSU-A is a two-year community college campus accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is dedicated to the concept of high-quality, cost-effective education that meets the needs of the community and diverse student population.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Under direction of the Title V Program Operations Director:
- Work as a Student Success Coach in or with areas related to admissions, onboarding, retention, or job placement
- prepare training materials for peer mentor staff that are targeted to serving Hispanic and low-income students
- delivers training to peer mentor staff
- coordinates and organizes meetings and special events
- plan and coordinates academic and co-curricular success programs for the community college students
- ensure curriculum MAPS (My Academic Plan) are being followed by Hispanic and low-income students
- works to continually monitor students’ progression through degree or certificate program and ensures no barriers exist that will impede completion
- Identifies any existing barriers caused by campus policies or regulations for Hispanic and low-income students and addresses those barriers with the project director and appointed RC3 Committee to suggest simplification
- host registration events at local high schools
- review the current Placement Assessment and determine effectiveness based on successful completion rates in developmental programs
- research and propose ways to assess and support reading skills with embedded tutors
- ensure all first-year Hispanic students have completed all applications relevant to scholarships and financial aid before student finalizes enrollment/registration
- conduct “intrusive advising” proactively to help students stay on the track toward their completion
- ensure NMSU-A Admissions and Registration processes are aligned and simplified for students to gain enrollment
- actively monitor and react to students’ transition needs
- develop and continually revise a toolbox to be used to provide local resources to students
Under limited supervision, develops, implements, and oversees a range of integrated special programs and initiatives designed to assist in the recruitment and retention of graduate and/or undergraduate students within an underrepresented target population or college. Responsible for the internal and external promotion and representation of program activities. Coordinates and provides support services to student participants as appropriate to program activities.
Classification Standard Duties
Plans, develops, and coordinates student support programs, special projects, and other initiatives geared to the recruitment and retention of students within the targeted student population or college. Oversees and administers all facets of the day-to-day operations of the various programs and activities related to the position. Serves as primary liaison with internal and external contacts on all matters relating to the program(s) activities; represents the program(s) on a local, regional, and/or national basis. Provides and/or coordinates financial aid scholarship disbursement, academic advisement, career advisement, and/or related support to students participating in the programs; acts as student advocate, and provides day-to-day problem solving as necessary. Oversees and/or coordinates the collection and analysis of program activity data; develops, writes, edits, and presents statistical and narrative program reports and evaluations. May plans, develops, and implements strategies for identifying and generating funding and/or resource opportunities for program activities, to include development of grant and other fundraising proposals. Participates in the development of goals and objectives; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the unit. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Required Experience
Three (3) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
