Job purpose
Supervises hourly employees in a manufacturing environment: plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures. Improve working conditions (safety, quality, productivity, and cost) and increase subordinate’s skills and capabilities. Assist Shift Superintendent in improving production, standard operating procedure, safety, quality control, employee relations, and performance management.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Ensures effective employee relation.
  • Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas.
  • Responsible for corrective action of employees, counseling and disciplining, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Schedule and assign employees and following up on work results.
  • Manages department priorities.
  • Generate production records, including materials produced, materials used, scrap, waste, and defects, production rates, etc.
  • Responsible for confirming product data captured during production is correct, accurate and filed.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Train employees in the areas of Good Manufacturing Practices, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points, and OSHA regulations.
  • Provide support and back-up to supporting areas.
  • Responsible for the quality of work performed and for identifying and documenting quality problems for corrective action and prevention of non-conforming product
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities
  • Preferred candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree, Food Science or appropriate fields that include business management, agribusiness, and science.
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience in supervision/management.
  • Preferred candidates should have food industry experience.

  • Oral communication—the individual speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrates group presentation skills and conducts meetings.

  • Leadership and management skills —the individual inspires and motivates others to perform well, accepts feedback from others.
  • Quality management—the individual looks for ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Judgment—the individual displays willingness to make decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgment and makes timely decisions.
  • Planning/organizing—the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
  • Safety and security—the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.

Work Environment
This job operates in a manufacturing environment and occasionally in an office setting. Extended periods of standing while walking the production floor and also occasional period of sitting using a computer or other devices are common.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to balance; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear as defined below:
1. Ability to communicate orally
2. The ability to remain in a stationary position roughly 50% of the time, is required
3. Using a computer while sitting for extended periods is common.
4. Lifting up to 15lbs.

Supervisor Responsibility
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
