POSITION SUMMARY:
A Technical 3D Artist II assists in creating intermediate to complex technical animations for use in technical manuals such as operator manuals, repair/maintenance manuals, training material, and parts books and in e-learning environments such as CBT and instructor-led training. Works closely with other technical 3D artists and technical writer(s). Creates animations hyperlinked to textual information in a content management system, schematics that animate theory of operation, technical animation of repair procedures, and many other types of technical animation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Utilizes existing data to maximize use of previously developed artwork
- Develops and maintains internal art specifications to match each unique customer and project requirements
- Creates and revises intermediate technical illustrations and animations from engineering prints, photographs, 3D CAD model files, sketches, rough descriptions, or other source material
- Creates and revises artwork according to customer guidelines, internal specifications, and established company policies and procedures
- Generates final artwork for projects based on established criteria and within established timelines and budget
- Understands and immediately reports out-of-scope issues with program/project management and/or client
- Provides accurate and timely status updates to internal and external clients and management as needed
- Continues to learn, identify, and apply cost-saving techniques
- Identifies, documents, and communicates process improvement opportunities with supervisors and team members
- Two to three (2-3) years of experience or specialized training in 3D drawings or animation (using Autodesk Maya, Maxon Cinema 4D, Unity, or similar 3D modeling programs) preferred
Technical Experience:
· Intermediate experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere)
· Intermediate knowledge in creating/modifying 3D art with lighting and texturing in Maya or other similar 3D application (i.e., Cinema4D, 3D Studio Max, Blender, Unity)
· Ability to create intermediate level technical animations according to customer and internal specifications using animation software
· Ability to read and understand 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD model files
· Ability to revise and create intermediate level animations and technical illustrations utilizing engineering prints, photographs, 3D CAD model files, sketches, rough descriptions, or other source material
· Intermediate proficiency in polygon modelling; includes creating models from scratch and modifying existing CAD models
· Understanding of how to create a UV set to apply a texture map
· Knowledgeable on how to create and apply shaders for 3D models
· Knowledge of physically based rendering (PBR) is a plus
· Familiar with lighting a scene for rendering
· Basic understanding of simple keyframe animation is required
· Familiar with render layers for compositing
· Understanding of the different ways to composite multiple renders or images together for a final image
· Experience with color correcting used in conjunction with the compositing process
· Ability to create/composite different types of source material to be used as a texture map for a 3D object
· Experience with exporting FBX models, including preparation and optimization
· Overall knowledge of Unity and its’ user interface, layout, and tools, including FBX import, texture map import, shaders, lighting a scene, and post processing effects is a plus
· Experience or basic knowledge of C# is a plus
Certification / Licensure:
- Valid driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record is preferred
- Government/Military Common Access Card (CAC) to work on assigned contracts and/or projects may be required
- Secret clearance issued by the Department of Defense (DoD) clearance may be required

Pay: $51,000.00 - $53,000.00 per year
