JOBJob SummaryThis is a 9-month faculty position (176 days) responsible for designing and implementing learning strategies for students. This position plays a substantial role for reviewing and maintaining the integrity of the curriculum offered by the automotive program. Additionally, a 9-month faculty member will participate in College activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the position description satisfactorily. Responsible for designing and implementing learning strategies for students.Teach generally between 44 and 45 credits per annum (across three terms) at an approximate class size of fifteen students per section for face to face lecture and lab classes. Teach assigned classes in accordance with current course outlines and as outlined by the college.Participate in instructor evaluation, assessment of student academic achievement and demonstrate modification of teaching techniques in accordance with assessment feedback. Document modifications based on assessment results.Cultivate a variety of teaching styles in order to provide quality learning experiences to a diverse student populationPost and maintain student office hours (office hours). A minimum of one office hour is required each week for each section.Establish instructional standards in accordance with Academic policies and inform students, in writing (syllabi), of such standards and policies.Review and update course outcome guides and syllabi in cooperation with others.Modify teaching style based on assessment results and professional development experiences.Responsible for the overall development, implementation, and evaluation of the Automotive Technology Program activities.Prepare and deliver curriculum material in accordance to the course outline and program objectives.Prepare instructional support material, such as course syllabi, instructional media, and lecture material, books that incorporate the latest technology. Convene classes on time and as scheduled.Maintain and document grades, attendance and provide all necessary documentation for incompletes, drops and withdrawals in accordance with the college’s timelines and guidelines. Assists with purchasing supplies and equipment; monitors budget.Advises students on matters of program goals, course requirements, and schedule of office hours.Work with industry partners to maintain a high-level internship program.Maintain a positive and disciplined classroom and lab atmosphere.Will participate in College activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College.Participate in evaluative process for self, department, and program.Participate in departmental or discipline specific meetings to provide guidance and subject matter expertise in the furtherance of the college’s strategic and academic plans including accreditation. Advise automotive studentsAttend and contribute to an assigned committee on an advised and consent basis.Attend commencement and other college sponsored programs as required.Promote the College mission, values, and vision.Work with high schools to facilitate dual credit/dual enrollment opportunities.Work with four-year colleges and universities to facilitate articulation.Assists and oversees shop policy and procedures pertaining to safety, clean up, repairs, and vendor relations.Ensure safe working conditions for students and instructors.Keeps the condition of the shop and the materials within it in safe working order.Maintains departmental equipment and participates in periodic inventory.Provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate.Initiates purchase requisitions and work orders, as needed.Non-essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOther duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed to Perform This RoleTo successfully preform this job applicant must have a knowledge of heavy truck, equipment, light duty diesel and gasoline, electrical, hydraulics, gas and diesel engines.Advanced proficiency in one or more areas can be substituted as long as there is a commitment to professional development in deficient skills as part of essential job duties and knowledge is obtained in a timely manner. Proficient in using diagnostic software Education and ExperienceBachelor of sciences degree automotive recommendedPossess an associate degree in either diesel technology or automotive technology or a minimum of 10,000 verifiable hours in the industry (5 years of continuous service).Experience teaching in education or managing a professional setting is preferred.Must possess a valid Driver’s License and provide proof of an acceptable driving record.

Physical Demands and Working ConditionsThe usual working conditions of this position are typical of those found in automotive teaching lab settings. Conditions involve working with automotive lab equipment, tools, and computers. The noise level in the work area is typical of automotive lab and classroom setting. Use of proper safety equipment is required at all times.Frequently moving to a sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and stooping position.Frequently reaching and manipulating objects. Moving materials weighing up to 25 lbs. on a regular basis, such as automotive technology lab equipment, tools, materials, etc.May infrequently requiring moving materials weighing up to 100 lbs. Requires using proper safety equipment and procedures.
