9-Month Teaching Faculty (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration)
Job description
Duties and Tasks:
Full-time teaching faculty members are responsible for teaching courses offered in traditional, hybrid, and distance learning formats. Full-time 9-month teaching faculty positions carry a normal teaching load of 12-15 credit hours and 15-20 contact hours per semester. Faculty members also serve as faculty advisors, serve on division/campus/college committees, participate in curriculum development, and maintain currency in their discipline.
Essential Functions:
NOVA faculty are expected to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports in a timely manner; teach the courses using established texts; conduct requisite student conferences; hold required office hours; attend to assigned divisional and college duties; contribute to the development of the program of instruction; adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college policies, procedures, and regulations; answer emails in a responsible fashion; maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization; and advise students.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Practical application of the principles of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
- Proficiency in installation and service of HVACR equipment.
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to teach the fundamental and advanced concepts of installing and servicing HVACR equipment.
- Ability to design, supervise, and evaluate lab assignments to demonstrate student proficiency.
- Ability to use instructional technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in the teaching field with demonstrated competencies OR appropriately related education and/or occupational certifications combined with substantial related experience in the occupational field.
- Qualifying academic degrees and coursework should be from a regionally accredited institution.
- A minimum of two years of full-time (or full-time equivalent) related occupational experience is required.
- Additional experience beyond the minimum is required for applicants/candidates that do not possess a minimum of an associate’s degree in the teaching field.
- Valid Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Universal Certification (EPA 40 CFR of Section 608)
- Bachelor’s degree in the teaching field.
- Some community college or university level teaching experience.
- Significant occupational experience (at least 5 years) in field.
- Supervisory experience in HVACR.
- Experience with commercial or industrial heating, cooling, and refrigeration. HVAC Masters License.
- Familiarity with industry-related credentials, such as NATE or ESCO.
- Knowledge of HVAC Excellence standards.
- Experience teaching a diverse student population.
- Experience teaching hybrid courses and demonstrated proficiency and experience in using
instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard or Canvas) with the ability to use technology to enhance teaching. - An active DPOR HVAC (Tradesman) licensure.
