POSITION SUMMARY

Advises students regarding information, procedures, and academic requirements of a specific program. Assist students in exploring careers, evaluating academic abilities, and setting goals. Assists with registration and graduation requirements. Advises students regarding course content, course selection, pre-requisites, curriculum changes, recommended credit load, curriculum planning, and financial aid processes and policies to insure successful and timely graduation. Presents academic information to students and parents at campus events. Makes recommendations to divisional leadership and students regarding appropriate courses of action to respond to students’ complex personal and academic challenges

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Use coaching framework, assess the student's stage of development (academic, career, and personal) and promote student growth by determining suitable developmental tasks; assist student in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals. Advise students regarding course content, course selection, pre-requisites, curriculum changes, recommended credit load, and curriculum planning to insure timely graduation.
  • Coach students on academic, career and personal issues; identify the educational and career options appropriate for each student and assist with the analysis of each option, including possible outcomes and their implications; if needed, refer student to appropriate student services; set up an action plan for the student to meet their academic goals.
  • Gather and interpret data to prepare and analyze reports for retention, tracking, and accountability.
  • Interpret and explain college policies and procedures; participates in preparation of campus events and presents academic information to new students and parents at campus events.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams to carry out events and increase enrollment.
  • Develop and implements retention strategies to increase student success consistent with College programs., Resolve questions and advocate for students regarding academic policies and procedure.
  • Advise students on credit for prior learning and prepare appropriate documentation.
  • Advise students on general financial aid information and assist with financial aid appeals.
  • Assist in recruitment of potential students by advising them of general academic requirements; describe courses; disseminate information regarding registration procedures.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: A minimum of two years related experience.

Computer Skills

Microsoft Office Suite and Internet Web Browsers. Previous People Soft experience is preferred.


Other Requirements

Previous experience in advising and career assessment is preferred.

Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the District’s standard insurance policy terms.
