Position Summary
Under the direction of the Manager of Facilities, the Facilities Engineer will assist in the efficient and safe maintenance and care of the museum’s new state-of-the-art building.
Essential Responsibilities
- Complete equipment and building repairs such as plumbing, painting, and carpentry, drywall repair, etc.
- Preform preventive maintenance on humidifiers, air handlers, air filters, boilers, pumps and other mechanical equipment
- Ensure mechanical rooms and supply areas remain clean and safe
- Produce accurate logs, charts, and preventative maintenance forms
- Perform regular diagnostic testing and operational checks, as well as schedule preventative maintenance tasks to ensure operational performance and energy efficiencies
- Maintain an inventory of all supplies and equipment required for the department, related to tasks above
- Ensure all work is completely safety, with appropriate PPE and adherence to Tribal standards and procedures
- Must be available to work weekends and have reliable transportation to and from work
- Maintain continuity of service by obtaining event information from all departments in order to follow through with special maintenance requirements or requests
- Support the set and strike of equipment and furniture for museum special and rental events
- Other duties, as required
Physical Demands of the Position:
Must be able to:
- sustain periods of physical activity, including standing, walking, climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and maintaining balance
- safely grasp, bend, and lift at least 10-45 lbs., and pushing 75 lbs. with the assistance of a cart
- sit at a desk or work station for sustained periods of time to use HVAC controls software, prepare logs and complete administrative functions
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED, plus some trade college or trade school training in mechanical systems or certified apprenticeship
- Five to ten (5-10) years of experience in building systems for museums, art galleries, hospitals, research lab, universities or similar building environments, preferred
- Weekend work will be required; evenings and holiday work may be required, as scheduled in advance
- Response to and management of emergency building issues, which may require work during late night or early morning hours, as needed
- Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English: be able to use a computer for basic office correspondence, work orders, email communications and building systems; read gauges and digital screens of large equipment; manage variant noise levels
- Ability to manage simultaneous projects and work schedules
Background
The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum is a new 48,000 square-foot facility, created and presented by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, in the heart of Palm Springs. The Museum will share the Agua Caliente Cultural Plaza with the newly built Spa at Séc-he and the outdoor Oasis Trail canyon experience. ACCM will contain a nearly 10,000 square-foot permanent exhibition gallery to share the story of the Agua Caliente peoples; a 2,100 square-foot changing gallery; collections storage; a museum store; indoor/outdoor rental spaces and an outdoor education garden.
The ACCM Central Plant serves only the museum and contains three chillers, two boilers, state of the art BMS controls. The museum shares the support of an emergency generator with the Spa and other uses on the Plaza.
