General Summary
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for handling the accounting needs of the credit union including but not limited to preparing financials, preparing journal entries, maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts and bank accounts, accounts payable, and monthly closing duties. This position will act as the Primary ACH Operator for the department.
Essential Functions
· Process daily ACH/Share Draft exceptions, including balancing and returns. Additionally, review of outgoing ACH items, ACH disputes, and ACH/Draft Stop Payment reviews.
· Process mobile check deposits daily.
· Process incoming returns (ACH and Share Draft) daily including contacting members, completing notices, and reporting.
· Post entries clearing though the corporate bank accounts daily.
· Verify and post incoming and outgoing wires.
· Update excel spreadsheets as needed for reconciliations.
· Reconcile outstanding checks and Capital One bank account daily.
· Act as a backup to Accounts Payable in absence of Sr. Accounting Specialist.
· Assists the Accounting Manager and/or CFO with day- to- day Accounting activities including but not limited to the following:
a. Assigned general ledger reconciliations and analysis of accounts
b. Assist with month end closing duties
c. Assist with preparation for our annual audit
d. Complete bank reconciliations.
· Verifying accuracy, completeness and consistency of accounting information received.
· Resolves daily problems and when unable to do so, communicate needs promptly and effectively to the Accounting Manager for guidance and resolution.
· Assists departmental or credit union staff members with questions or requests in a timely and professional manner ensuring a cohesive and responsive team.
· Post and balancing Mortgage payments daily.
· Preform various other duties as needed.
· Maintains thorough knowledge of credit union processes, policies, procedures, regulations, and GAAP specific to the job responsibilities and duties.

Job Specifications
· Two-year degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent preferred.
· Professional, well-developed interpersonal skills necessary for servicing Credit Union staff, members and projecting a positive image as representative for the Credit Union.
· Must have a thorough knowledge of financial concepts and GAAP.
· Must have strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
· Strong MS Excel and Word skills
· Basic mathematical skills required (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing.)
