Responsibilities
This position supports the pre-transplant and waitlist operations in the Transplant Center. It works in partnership with the clinical coordinators to monitor and facilitate the patient evaluation process by ordering and ensuring the receipt of reports/studies required to complete the evaluation. This position also monitors and maintains up-to-date information for all patients on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waiting list.
Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of health care insurance systems, which may include Medi-Cal, Medicare, HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, county funded coverage, and workers’ compensation, sufficient to properly obtain and track authorizations, appoint patients, make referrals for consultations, diagnostics and ancillary services, coordinate hospital services, and explain provisions and requirements to patients.
  • Ability to efficiently use computer system applications for all functions required for this position, including electronic mail, spreadsheets, word processing, and medical office management, (i.e. scheduling, correspondence, maintenance of demographic and insurance information)
  • Working knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology sufficient to communicate knowledgeably with patients and health care providers regarding appointments, services and procedures.
  • Experience abstracting laboratory results and other medical information from a medical record.
  • Experience scheduling patient clinic and ancillary appointments within UCDH and the surrounding community.
  • Ability to read, effectively compose, and edit documents with an excellent working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure; use proper style and format with strict attention to detail for all writen documents.
Special Requirements
  • Ability to work overtime and/or flex hours as needed to meet the needs of the Program (ie, attend evening Education Seminars on a monthly basis).
  • Must be familiar with and comply with specific and detailed safety procedures, such as biosafety and confined entry requirements, radiation safety and biosafety protocols, asbestos removal procedures, specifics of Material Safety Data Sheets, etc.,
  • Must be able to appropriately fit and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as TB masks, goggles, face shields, gowns, gloves and protective safety equipment such as safety glasses and safety shoes.,
  • Must participate in medical monitoring programs, including film badges, cholinesterase tests, bioassay tests, tuberculosis tests, serum tests, etc.,
  • Must participate in preventive medical programs, including immunizations, medical surveillance, and physical examinations.
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
