The Youth Biodiversity Collective is a recently created multi-generational nonprofit dedicated to educating and engaging youth on biodiversity conservation. The YBC is currently seeking volunteer Advisory Board Members. As an Advisory Board Member, you will play a crucial role in guiding and supporting our organization's mission to empower youth in protecting and conserving biodiversity, with a specific focus on environmental media, curriculum development, youth engagement, and citizen science. We are interested in candidates with expertise in the environmental field or functional nonprofit experience.

Responsibilities:

• Strategic Guidance: Provide strategic input and advice to the Youth Biodiversity Collective's leadership team, contributing to the development and execution of our goals, objectives, and long-term strategic plans. Help shape our vision for educating and empowering youth in biodiversity conservation.
• Governance and Oversight: Ensure our organization operates in compliance with our mission, vision, and values, as well as applicable laws and regulations. Provide oversight and guidance on financial management, risk assessment, and governance practices to ensure transparency and accountability.
• Fundraising and Resource Development: Support us in identifying and securing resources to sustain and expand our programs. Actively participate in fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, grant applications, and sponsorships, to fuel our youth-led biodiversity conservation initiatives.
• Networking and Partnership Building: Leverage your personal and professional networks to forge strategic partnerships, collaborations, and connections that advance our mission and amplify the impact of our collective work. Help us build alliances with organizations, experts, and stakeholders in the biodiversity conservation field.
• Program Evaluation and Impact Assessment: Assist us in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of our programs and projects aimed at biodiversity conservation. Provide feedback and recommendations for program improvements, innovation, and scaling up our youth-focused initiatives.
• Advocacy and Public Relations: Serve as a passionate ambassador for the Youth Biodiversity Collective, promoting our mission and activities within the community and beyond. Advocate for youth-led biodiversity conservation efforts, engaging with stakeholders, policymakers, and other relevant parties to drive awareness and action.
• Board Meetings: Attend quarterly Advisory Board meetings and actively contribute to discussions and decision-making processes.

Qualifications:

• Passion for the Mission: Demonstrate a genuine commitment to the mission and values of the Youth Biodiversity Collective, with a strong desire to empower and engage youth in biodiversity conservation.
• Expertise and Experience: Advisory Board Members should either have technical knowledge and experience related to environmental topics and/or experience in functional aspects of nonprofit development, such as fundraising, grant management, communications, youth engagement, program development, legal, finance, or accounting. Experience in videography, media production, public relations, journalism, and/or nonfiction publishing is helpful but not required.
• Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, work effectively as part of a team, and engage with multiple stakeholders, including youth, educators, scientists, and conservationists.
• Time Commitment: Willingness to dedicate the necessary time and effort to fulfill the responsibilities of the Advisory Board Member role, including attending meetings, providing guidance, and supporting fundraising activities.
• Environmental Justice Commitment: Applicants should be committed to intersectional environmentalist and environmental justice.
