Job description

The Domestic and Sexual Violence Hotline Advocate is an after-hours, paid position responsible for providing a safe, supportive, caring environment to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, where options are outlined and the choices are made by the survivors.

Direct Service to victims of domestic and sexual violence

a) Carry a pager after-hours (when the office is closed: 4:30 pm – 8:30 am and weekends)

b) Be available to meet with survivors at the police station or hospital after-hours

c) Offer phone support to survivors

d) Provide support at the hospital during sexual assault exam

e) Safety plan with clients

f) Assist with Relief from Abuse Order paperwork

g) Advocate with and for survivors with community partners (i.e. law enforcement, court staff, health care providers)

h) Connect survivors with emergency housing if needed

Training and Supervision
a) 20 hours of training provided by the Advocacy Program and as required by Vermont law for evidentiary crisis worker privilege.

b) Meet with Advocacy Program Coordinator once a month for supervision and by phone as needed.

c) Submit call sheets to Advocacy Program Coordinator in a timely manner.

Desirable Qualifications: Core knowledge of domestic and sexual violence; experience interacting with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures; self-motivated with the ability to work with limited supervision; empathic listening, professionalism, oral and written communication skills, problem solving; and ability to maintain a relaxed demeanor.
