This position is Located at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek. The Welding position provides support to Coastal Riverine Group Two in their efforts to maintain their Fleet of primarily Aluminum hulled small craft. The selected candidate will be required to perform welding, fabrication and inspection of small boats and craft, and aluminum hulls in accordance with NAVSEA standards.

What You Will Do...

  • Applies comprehensive understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments.
  • Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others.
  • Performs a variety of complicated and non routine tasks.
  • Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
  • Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

What You Must Have...

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must have prior experience with Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) and Gas Tungsten Are Welding (GTAW/TIG) in accordance with Navy Technical manuals.
  • Must have past or current certifications in: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) and Gas Metal Arc Welding Pulse (GMAW-P).
  • Must have experience repairing and troubleshooting hull damage to rails, hull structure, cabin tops and other metal areas relating to civil engineering support equipment (CESE) and boats.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of technical requirements and be able to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and manuals.
  • Must have ability to identify complex problems and solutions as well as supervise lower-level employees.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain base access credentials.
  • Prior experience with MIG/TIG welding service in accordance with Naval Ships' Technical Manual Chapter 074 Volume 1 Welding and Allied Processes is required

Preferred: Bonus Points For...

  • Candidate with an active DoD secret security clearance are highly desired.
  • Candidate with knowledge of Navy technical manuals and/or Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)standards and procedures is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
