Job Title: AOD Counselor II and III
Reports To: Program Manager

Summary: The Counselor III will serve as a liaison for Medical Director and conduct assigned tasks given by the Program Manager. This position works closely with the management team and treatment team to ensure that the compatibility and integrity of the programs are upheld. The Counselor III helps to ensure clients are safely monitored throughout detoxification and all facets of the day to day operations run smoothly.
Counselor II and III are an AOD Counselor who is certified by a one of the 3 recognized governing body by the state of California. Counselor II has a minimum of 6000 h of supervised work experience and Counselor III has 5 or more year of demonstrable experience and at least 10,000h of supervised work experience.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
§ Support oversite of client’s day to day operations and services
§ Assist management team and treatment team with client supervision and service delivery
§ Serves as liaison for Medical Director
§ Ensures clients are safely monitored throughout detoxification
§ Assist in maintenance of program records and files
§ Ensure regular drug screens are conducts as directed by management staff and tests are logged appropriately
§ Assure Incident Reports are recorded and reported
§ Assure adherence to all safety rules and regulations
§ Provide client transportation, if applicable
§ Other tasks as assigned by the program management
Primary Objectives:
§ Maintain a good knowledge and understanding of CLARE|MATIX’s mission, vision, & philosophy
§ Contribute to a healthy work environment and actively participate in meetings and team-building activities
§ Communicate on a direct and timely basis about needs and problems as they arise
§ Ensure standards of conduct are upheld to CLARE|MATRIX standards
§ Ensure a community environment is maintained to CLARE|MATRIX standards
§ Ensure health and safety regulations are upheld to CLARE|MATRIX standards
Specific Responsibilities:
§ Attend all scheduled meeting and trainings
§ Monitor clients who are going through detoxification by doing rounds, monitoring vitals and COWS/CIWA,making sure Medical Director’s medication orders are being followed
§ Assist management and treatment staff in client supervision during daily activities
§ Facilitate group therapy sessions and document under CARF and ASAM guidelines
§ Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients and staff; Respond to client requests in a professional and courteous manner; Observe and adhere to client confidentiality standards.
§ Supervise residents in coordination of daily program activities
§ Conduct thorough room and grounds checks
§ Adhere to medication policy: monitor client’s self-administration of medication, daily medication counts, document into electronic health records accurately
§ Assure that all emergency needs of residents are met and these incidents are reported as required
§ Respond appropriately to emergencies including contacting appropriate staff and supervisor(s), interacting with police, fire, and medical personnel as needed.
§ Assure adherence to all safety rules and regulations
§ Answer phones and provide information, referrals, and assistance to callers
§ Provide client transportation, if applicable
Ensure the safety of participants by limiting access to facility to participants, staff, and authorized visitors and service providers; help to ensure adequate health and safety standards are maintained throughout the facility.
§ Maintain open, complete, and accurate verbal and written communications with all staff and residents
§ Must be self-motivated and able to follow job duties alone during this shift
§ Other tasks as assigned by the program management
Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
Minimum Requirements:
Counselor II and III are an AOD Counselor who is certified by a one of the 3 recognized governing body by the state of California. · Attainment of at least 18 years of age
· A Health Screening with negative TB Test results
· A Criminal Record Clearance
· Shall have graduated from high school or possess a GED
§ Experience in working with diverse populations.
§ Clerical skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office
§ A minimum of one-year sobriety if recovering
§ Culturally competent
§ Clean driving record required if driving is a requirement
Physical Demands:
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Medical History:
All employees whose functions require or necessitate contact with client or food preparation shall complete a health screening report or a health questionnaire. Health screening report or health questionnaire will be provided upon hire. For all residential employees a health screening report, be completed and signed off by a medical practitioner signature for clearance. All outpatient employees will complete at minimum a self-report screening questionnaire.
TB test are to be conducted under licensed medical supervision not more than 60 calendar days prior to or 7 calendar days after employment and renewed annually from the date of the last tuberculosis test. Staff with a known record of tuberculosis or record of positive testing shall not be required to obtain a tuberculosis skin test. Unless there is documentation that the staff completed at least 6 months of preventive therapy, the staff shall be required to obtain, within 45 calendar days of employment, a chest x-ray result and a physician’s statement that the incumbent does not have communicable tuberculosis and has been under regular care and monitoring for tuberculosis. A chest x-ray within the prior 6 months is acceptable. The physician’s statement shall be renewed annually.

This job will be primarily located at the CLARE|MATIX offices in Santa Monica, CA.
