Overview & Responsibilities
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Develop and prepare technical solutions and quotation proposals for new equipment to meet or exceed customer requirements. Provide technical and commercial support to promote the business including strategic initiatives. Interface with engineering, operational groups and customers in the development/clarification of proposal information.
BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE
Following is a list of the primary skills/requirements of this position:
- Four (4) year degree in an engineering field or equivalent work experience
- Working knowledge of engineering/design principles as related to the performance of turbo machinery.
- Application and design knowledge of turbo machinery as well as their related auxiliaries (i.e.: generators, gears, lube systems, etc.)
- Ability to understand and balance the inter-relationships among price, performance, delivery, and reliability when selecting/designing a unit.
- Good verbal and nonverbal communication skills for preparing proposals, conducting meetings, answering sales/customer questions.
- Ability to understand and balance internal cost structure, market value, and margin goals when pricing a project.
- Computer skills including Office Suite programs, application programs, web based CPQ program.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/COMPETENCIES
Respond to customer inquiries for new equipment. This involves the following key steps:
Review inquiry to understand the requirements.
Make steam turbine selections and conduct aerodynamic performance and mechanical design analyses to ensure the equipment is within Elliott guidelines.
Define the Elliott scope of supply and identify items not specifically included in Elliott's scope.
Complete requisition forms for major purchased auxiliaries and work with Purchasing to secure quotations for same.
Perform reviews of customer and industry standard specifications for the purpose of providing comments & exceptions and identifying nonstandard items that would affect cost/delivery.
Create the proposal including data sheets, scope, performance curves, pricing, delivery, comments and exceptions to specifications, and all other pertinent data.
Submit proposal to Sales and aid Sales in presenting the proposal to the customer if necessary.
Technical/commercial support during quote phase:
Answer technical and commercial questions from Sales or customer concerning the proposal.
Modify the proposal as required to keep pricing and delivery current and to adjust scope as necessary.
Work with Sales/Management to adjust scope/delivery/price as needed to be competitive
Participate in bid clarification meetings with Sales/customer if required.
Transfer data to Project Engineering / Project Management after an order is received:
Attend internal transfer meetings
Assemble all pertinent information including inquiry specs, scope, costs, schedule, etc. to define the project for the project engineer / project manager.
Enter the order into Elliott system by completing the 331 Form.
Develop/improve procedures for doing all of the above by:
Computerizing standard, repeatable procedures and calculations.
