Mr. Toad’s Pottery is looking for outgoing and upbeat team members to join our Toadily Creative Team! The perfect applicant is someone who uplifts the creative experience for our guests. We are looking for someone who will have the personality, patience, and enthusiasm to thrive in this role. Art experience is NOT necessary! About Us

Mr. Toad’s Pottery is a do-to-yourself art studio based in LaVale, MD that offers kiln-fired art projects including paint your own pottery and clay hand building, as well as canvas painting. Our mission is to provide a fun, friendly and engaging creative outlet for our community, where creativity is inspired and memories are made.

Working Conditions

Part Time, 10 to 30 hours per week. The average shift is 8 hours, most team members work an average of 3 shifts a week.

Working days

Variable, must commit to at least one weekend shift per week. *Saturday/Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday availability are priority at this time*

Position description and Minimum Requirements

All team members are responsible for providing excellent guest service and ensuring the studio is a clean, welcoming and fun destination to explore creativity and make memories. Minimum age requirement for this position is 18 years and have at least 1 year of customer service experience.

Team Member Responsibilities Include

  • Greeting, assisting and serving guests
  • Providing accurate information to visitors on products, techniques, pricing, etc.
  • Providing clear and easy to follow instructions for visitors of varying experience levels and ages
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, including cleaning the studio, tables, and supplies
  • Multi-tasking while working the studio floor and assisting guests, including answering phone calls/texts in a friendly and efficient manner and taking table reservations
  • Using Square POS and iPads to check out guests and handle cash and credit card transactions accurately
  • Wrapping finished guest orders for pick-up
  • Processing orders, including matching and contacting guests of finished orders
  • Leading and instructing parties and workshops for kids and adults in a confident and efficient manner
  • Putting away inventory and supply orders as they arrive and restocking shelves and supplies as needed
  • Maintaining a clean and professional appearance
  • Contributing to the team environment at the studio by learning from and effectively communicating with teammates
  • Glazing, loading and unloading kilns
  • Sorting finished pottery and contacting guests

Physical Demands

  • Lifting of boxes and supplies between 5 to 50 pounds
  • Working 8 hours on your feet
  • Stretching, twisting and bending to load/unload kilns or clean
  • Crouching, stooping or kneeling to stock or retrieve pottery or clean
  • Climbing to retrieve pottery or clean
  • Fine motor skills

Pay

Team members generally start at $12.20/hr if 18+ for initial training, with increases after probationary period and with increased skill levels achieved. Staff regularly average an additional $2-3/hr to their base pay after tips, with most staff earning $16+/hr cumulatively.

Currently, masking is optional for guests. All staff must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and masking is optional for staff who are fully boosted. We offer Pottery To Go for more cautious guests.
