JOB TITLE: Assistant Administrator
JOB SUMMARY: The assistant administrator is designated by the administrator to act in his/her absence. He/she must be familiar with the established policies and procedures of the nursing home. He/she will be in the facility in the absence of the administrator and may be working on the off-shifts. Should work flexible hours and some weekends.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to the Administrator.
EQUIPMENT USED: Computer, fax machine, telephone.
ENVIRONMENT: 98% inside and 2% outside.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position.
NOTE: Certain functions may vary by facility.
1. Represents the facility to the general public, visitors, families and residents.
2. Capable of solving problems, complaints, etc. concerning personnel, residents and families.
3. Is involved with safety committee and values committee.
4. Handles emergencies pertaining to the facility physical plant.
5. Assists with inspections performed by the State and Federal Regulatory personnel.
6. Fires and hires as emergencies arise if warranted, especially nursing assistants.
7. Gives a verbal or written report to the Administrator of duties performed.
8. Investigates incidents and accidents as they occur on his/her shift.
9. Assists the Administrator as needed.
10. Does all things necessary for the health, safety and welfare of the residents.
11. Must consistently demonstrate a positive attitude and behaviors, while contributing to the overall success of the Company.
12. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

PRIMARY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
LIFT up to 10 lbs: Frequently required when carrying manuals and other objects.
LIFT 11 to 25 lbs: Occasionally required when setting up for meetings/special functions.
LIFT 26 to 50 lbs: Rarely required to move furniture to set up special functions.

CARRY up to 10 lbs: Occasionally required to carry manuals or supplies.

REACH above shoulder height: Occasionally may be required to reach upper shelves or for posting memos, etc.
REACH at shoulder height: Frequently occurs when answering phone or making announcements.
REACH below shoulder height: Occasionally may occur when retrieving objects.
PUSH/PULL: Rarely occurs and only in emergency.
HAND MANIPULATION:
Grasping: Constantly when writing messages, etc., while using pen or pencil.
Handling: Constantly when writing messages, etc., while using pen or pencil.
Torquing: Not required.
Fingering: Occasionally when typing, working computer or calculator.
Controls & Equipment: Telephone, PA system, heat and cooling controls, computers.

WORK SURFACE:
Standard desk and office chair.
Cognitive and Sensory Requirements:
Talking: Necessary for communicating with others.
Hearing: Constantly required when communicating with residents, visitors, staff and when using the telephone.
Sight: Constantly required when monitoring the operation of the facility.

Specific Vocational Preparation Requirement:
Over 6 months up to and including 1 year.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Licensed by the State in which they are employed.
Other Training, Skills, and Experience Requirements:
Experience in Nursing Home Regulations and Policies. Capable of making mature decisions. May have a college degree.

Category III (Task/activity does not entail predictable or unpredictable exposure to blood).
This position typically does not involve Category I exposure risk; however, if employee is trained in first aid, some emergency procedures may entail Category I exposure risks.

Miscellaneous: Pre-employment physical; annual Mantoux test; may decline HBV vaccine.
Other Considerations and Requirements:
This is a very sedentary position and employee is not required to do extensive physical exertion. Employee is rarely required to do any lifting. Employee is typically able to sit and stand as needed.
