The Lane Council of Governments (LCOG) is currently recruiting for one position to be hired at the Assistant or Associate level, with duties and responsibilities within LCOG’s Planning Program area.

LCOG is committed to a work environment that values the cultural, educational, and life experiences of each employee. We believe that a diverse workforce enables us to deliver culturally competent services to all members of our community. As part of our commitment to diversity, LCOG continues to be an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.

Here at LCOG, we are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes with relevant transferable skills from a variety of sources and experiences. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role.

Position Purpose: The primary functions of LCOG’s Planning Program are supporting long-range and current land use planning project work (typically supporting state and federal grants, and local government projects) as assigned. The Program provides staff expertise in facilitation, plan and code amendments, and economic and other strategic planning. Although it is anticipated that the new employee will initially assume more long-range planning work, the new position will cover a balance of planning assignments. This position provides planning, data, and systems analysis services in these areas; secures and utilizes resources; produces maps, graphics and reports; and represents the organization at various community, state, federal, and other agency meetings.

The newly hired planner formally reports to the Planning Manager while working directly under the project and contract management supervision of other staff alongside a team of planners. They will often work with Transportation and Natural Resources Planners, Land Use Attorneys and GIS Analysts.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in urban, land use, natural resources, environmental science, or transportation planning. Associate Planner classification requires a minimum of three years’ experience working on land use, transportation, natural resources, or other planning projects, or any combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the job.

Familiarity with the Oregon land use planning and operations environments preferred, and an ability and willingness to remain informed required.

Education and/or experience with land use planning.
