Position Summary

Prepare and maintain financial records to track accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash accounting, creates financial statements, manages tax compliance, and helps gathers documents for the external audit. Assist the accounting team and reports to the Controller.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Helps to oversee general accounting and financial operations including the monthly close.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analysis including detailed analysis of general ledger activity.
  • Assist in managing Day-to-day operations of the accounting department. Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenses
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Assist in coding invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
  • Reconciles bank accounts monthly, verifies deposits on a daily basis, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement daily accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Coordinate and prepare all internal and external financial reports on a timely basis
  • Prepare Journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations including reconciling the cash accounts.
  • Assists Controller in developing policies related to financial and operational management including the general ledger, cash management, revenue recognition, accounts payable, allocations, payroll, financial reporting, and budgets.
  • Supports the executive team in preparing materials for Board meetings and various committees
  • Conduct timely submissions of all federal and state tax filings.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Assists the Finance Director in developing annual operating and capital budgets and serve as back-up for critical functions such as payroll processing.
  • Assist with evaluating and implementing various accounting related software
  • Assist operations personnel with cost tracking, reporting, billing, and forecasting, and respond timely to any requests.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • BS in accounting, finance, or related area is required. MBA/CPA preferred.
  • Construction accounting experience is a plus, must have some type of accounting/ERP software experience.
  • Able to quickly understand advanced excel functions.
  • Ability to apply discretion, trust with confidential company information.
  • High attention to details, ability to take directions, self-check and follow up on work
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and multitask efficiently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to correctly prepare tax & other compliance reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
