Overview:
Marc Jacobs International, powered by the creative genius of Marc Jacobs, seeks an Assistant Knitwear Designer to join the Knitwear Design Team based in its New York City (SoHo) headquarters.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Report directly to Knitwear Designer. Work within a dynamic and exciting team of people
- Build and maintain swatch library
- Yarn research for new stitch developments under consideration of design direction, price point, innovation. Work with development team on yarn orders for swatches, sampling and SMS
- Working within PLM system, set up and update initial tech files, work with Tech Designer on preparing specs and detailed tech packs
- Work on seasonal swatch development, artworks, stitch research, layouts and graphs
- Assemble presentation boards and keep them updated, prepare mock ups, color ups, CADs
- Attend fittings, take notes and assist Designer and Senior Designer with artwork and stitch comments
- Will learn how to successfully manage time and responsibilities with various design calendars
- Help prepare and organize yarn, lab dips, and trim pass off to Product Development Team
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in fashion related field, ideally Knitwear related
- Minimum of 1 to 2 year(s) of experience in relevant field
- Knowledge of garment / pattern construction with an ability to interpret sketches
- Excellent flat sketching skills
- Knowledge of fully fashioned knitwear, techniques, construction, yarns and stitches (terminology required)
- Strong with computers, able to learn new programs and work within cloud sharing
- Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator). Added plus for PLM and Design Pro for knit artwork graphs
- Ability to make CAD’s in Illustrator and Photoshop
- Preparation of tech packs and working with Tech Designer for clear and efficient pass off
- Understanding the Marc Jacobs customer and brand positioning
- Proactive and observant in design process to maintain smooth and efficient work flow with team
- Self starter, driven and eager to learn.
- Flexible personality who can change course quickly.
- Team player, who is a strong communicator and enjoys working with others
- Able to multitask and manage responsibilities at hand
- Extremely organized and meticulous
- Has strong eye for design
- Enthusiasm to bring new energy into design process
SALARY & BENEFITS/WHAT WE OFFER:
The compensation for this position ranges from $50,000-$57,000 (annually). The rate of pay offered will be dependent upon candidate’s relevant skills and experience.
