Assistant Director, Community Fundraising
Job description
The Assistant Director, Community Fundraising supports community events aimed at generating philanthropic support for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and the child health programs at the Stanford University School of Medicine. The primary function is to oversee the Champions for Children third-party fundraiser program, as well as support the annual Summer Scamper 5k and kids’ fun run.
The Community Fundraising team operates on a hybrid model. The Assistant Director is eligible for hybrid work, meaning they are working in the office or in person whenever needed and on average of eight days a month. Note, the Foundation has a mandatory Covid-19 Vaccination Policy, and all new employees must submit proof of their Covid-19 vaccination and booster vaccine at the time their employment commences. Alternatively, prior to commencing employment, new employees may request approval for accommodation for an exemption to the policy as permitted by law.
GENERAL POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Champions for Children
- Manage a portfolio of Champions, including events and campaigns, partnership events, and honorarium/memorial fundraisers.
- Provide guidance and support to Champions to ensure success for each event or campaign, including application process, logistical support, marketing, etc.
- Steward Champions through acknowledgement letters, participant certificates, thank you notes; develop new and unique stewardship opportunities as appropriate.
- Represent the hospital at community events, giving speeches tailored to various audiences when appropriate; coordinate hospital tours and check presentations.
- Oversee program development for the overall Champions program, including strategies for recruitment, cultivation, stewardship, and retention.
- Oversee development of overall Champions program website and collateral and develop a strategy for optimal utilization.
- Work with Foundation field staff to manage dual-assigned Champions.
- Work with various Foundation departments to ensure all Champions fundraising events align with the Hospital and Foundation policies and guidelines.
- Work with Advancement Services team to effectively process Champion gifts.
- Work with the Development Communications team to maintain the Champions website, online fundraising pages, and provide digital support; to leverage Champions events as a tool to promote philanthropy and the hospital through blog posts, social media, and new opportunities.
- Work with Child Life and other hospital teams to facilitate donations and special events.
- Track and maintain all data and reporting for program; provide director with quarterly progress reports.
Summer Scamper
- Assist with overall production and execution of Summer Scamper, as needed.
- Steward racers with regards to fundraising techniques and toolkits.
- Provide guidance and support to Scamper Race Director to optimize fundraising and ensure Scamper is in line with the Foundation’s mission.
Management and Leadership
- Supervise and manage the Community Fundraising Associate and/or Program Manager.
- Establish goals for direct reports and Community Fundraising program; conduct regular evaluations and progress toward achieving goals.
- Responsible for onboarding and training of all new hires; develop a toolkit for team transitions.
- Participate in Foundation sponsored management training opportunities and seek out outside opportunities.

Collaboration and Teamwork
- Maintain knowledge of hospital programs to effectively communicate with supporters about their area of interest.
- Work cooperatively and strategically with all relevant internal teams to ensure the success of events and to bolster our fundraising efforts.
- On-site management of event portfolio and other department events as needed, including the Summer Scamper and Champions holiday toy drives.
- Function as a member of a team by accepting additional responsibilities and assisting others as necessary.
- Recommend new approaches, procedures, and processes to effect continual improvements in efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of department and services performed.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Assist Children’s Fund team with prospecting and stewardship events on an as needed basis. Recommends new approaches, procedures and processes to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
