Position Focus:
Yale School of Nursing seeks a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience in website administration. Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Digital Communications Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the School's website (nursing.yale.edu), as well as other digital projects, working closely with the communications and IT teams to maintain site standards and compliance with Yale University's open-access and accessibility policies. This person will be responsible for overseeing the planning, organization, and publishing of all web content and dissemination of digital messages. They will troubleshoot and address display issues as they arise using basic HTML, CSS, and content management tools. This position also monitors web traffic and is responsible for creating reports for senior leadership that identify patterns and content strengths and weaknesses that will in turn drive content decisions. Yale School of Nursing will be engaging in a website overhaul, and the Digital Communications Manager will, in consultation with the Director of Communications, lead the decision-making processes regarding refinements to the website and its functionalities. The ideal candidate is technologically savvy, highly collaborative, has a keen visual sense, and strong attention to detail. In all work, supports YSN diversity and inclusion values and commitments.

1. Manages the ongoing updating of the School of Nursing’s website. Partners with content providers to gather website proposals and modification requests. 2. Serves as project manager for projects developing websites, conceptualizing new initiatives, planning and implementing website structure, user interface, technical documentation, and graphic elements. 3. Serves as project manager and/or coordinator and leader for digital projects. Serves as liaison to other departments on all communications related to the School’s website and digital projects. 4. With a keen understanding of the multiple audiences and contributing departments involved, leads the strategic planning for any changes to the School’s website. Identifies and engages internal participants; research and contract with outside resources; ensures scope and approval criteria are defined and documented, and expectations are fully managed for all digital projects. 5. Designs and develops systems to manage web projects from inception to completion. Prioritizes multiple web proposals and requests, document progress and approvals, and manages requests effectively while meeting deadlines and collaborating with outside contractors, Information Technology, and appropriate department liaisons. 6. Manages network of content contributors across multiple departments to ensure accuracy, consistency, and elimination of duplicative content. 7. Monitors and manages requests for website changes. 8. Monitors website search engine entries and Google analytics. Generates analytical reports on web metrics to share with administration and to inform ongoing decision making, both short and long-term. Works with partners to ensure web-based information is archived for future needs and reference. 9. Defines and writes procedures, facilitates and supports business process change related to managing and maintaining website content. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties
1. Brand & Communications Strategy. Develops and executes public relations strategy, output, and performance for the department with the goal of increasing media impressions in local, national, industry-specific and alumni media. Creates communications strategy to showcase top technologies available for license. Ensures consistent look and tone for all department communications, including written content, website and social media. 2. Media Relations. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with media representatives. Identifies opportunities to work with other the departments, university publications and the Office of Public Affairs to develop and publicize stories. 3. Content Creation. Assesses the University faculty inventions and student startups for newsworthiness and create compelling news and public relations content. Creates engaging, dynamic content for the public, including press releases, blog articles, website updates, newsletter articles and social media. 4. Outreach. Manages delivery channels for newsworthy content, including updating and maintaining the department websites, social media accounts, and articles for email newsletters, and creating video, print, and on-campus events. Creates websites that embed existing content from Yale and external sites (publications related to the technology, videos featuring inventor, profile on Yale Bulletin and Calendar innovators webpage). 5. Other. Seeks out, negotiates with and recommends external organizations that can provide services that optimize both the cost and functionality of the new communications strategy. Ensures that all communications conform to the University guidelines. Hires student workers as needed to assist in producing copy. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and four years of experience in website design, production, marketing, project management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Proven ability to create and manage website content or similar project management experience.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Understanding of web writing principles, understanding of SEO, content management, and page presentation. Ability to troubleshoot and address issues using HTML, CSS, and digital accessibility.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Proven ability to work well under pressure, juggle multiple tasks, and meet demanding deadlines; demonstrated professionalism and flexibility in a busy multi-task environment; strong attention to detail.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Excellent customer service, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Ability to analyze information and improve processes, and excellent problem-solving and reporting skills.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Experience in managing Drupal web sites. Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
