The Assistant Director of Residential Life provides day-to-day leadership, supervision, and oversight of the Office of Residential Life, a housing program serving 1500 or more students. Specifically, the Assistant Director is responsible for providing assistance and support for the strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a multifaceted Residential Life program by developing and supporting Residential Life staff members and providing direction and oversight to Residential Learning Coordinators in the residence hall management and operations.

Major Responsibilities:

• Directly supervise the first-year hall Residential Learning Coordinators and Residential Learning
• Coordinator collateral assignments as determined by the Director of Residential Life
• Manage all room assignment processes for the regular academic year, break housing, and summer school periods
• Provide oversight to Residential Learning Coordinators to ensure successful management of residence hall facilities, including but not limited to building physical plant issues, opening and closing procedures, key inventory, and hall vandalism
• Work with administrative support staff to provide information on the various programs and services in the Office of Residential Life, including inquiries from students, parents, and guests
• Manage the Residential Life module of the University's Colleague/Datatel Information System via Adirondack's The Housing Director software to maintain accurate student billing and housing data, including occupancy reports, projections, and historical data
• Develop effective collaborative relationships with University partners and third-party vendors and companies
• Provide crisis management support for campus emergencies, and serve as a member of the division's after-hours on-call team
• Assigning tasks and assignments to subordinates
• Crisis management support to RLC on-call
• Communication and trouble-shooting with Adirondack's The Housing Director software
• Housing/Room Selection procedural processes
• Student Aide hiring decisions
• Housing marketing development
• General housing operational questions/decisions

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Master’s degree in college student personnel, or a related field
• A minimum of three years of full-time residential life and/or housing experience are required.
• Demonstrated skills in organizational leadership, crisis management, advising, problem-solving, and interpersonal, oral, and written communication
• Demonstrated a commitment to diversity and the ability to work with individuals or groups from diverse backgrounds
