The Office of Residence Life is looking for a highly talented individual to join our dynamic team. The Assistant Director is a 12-month, live-in, administrative position with the Office of Residential Life. The Assistant Director directly supervises and coordinates the development of the day-to-day operations of residence halls comprised of approximately 1200 students and 40 +/- student Resident Assistants and serves as a positive role model in the position
Responsibilities
Supervision:

  • Lead recruitment, selection, supervision and training of student RA staff (40 +/-)
  • Supervise, and evaluate the Resident Assistants and Senior Resident Assistant (SRA) staff
  • Provide training and ongoing development opportunities for all supervisees
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings that update and reinforce staff development
  • Conduct regular one on one meetings with SRAs
  • Collaborate with student staff to develop action plans for growth
  • Participate in department meetings, including weekly Residence Life meetings

Community Development:

  • Facilitate the development of a positive and inclusive community, working particularly with the Office of Intercultural Affairs, Career Center, Counseling Services and Public Safety
  • Develop marketing and outreach for to new and current students
  • Develop meaningful connections with students and staff by being available during office hours
  • Coordinate, implement, and assess the developmental programming model, the freshmen residential experience, and LLC student experiences
  • Facilitate use of roommate and community agreements to identify student expectations and encourage development
  • Encourage and actively structure processes, programs and outreach to increase student. involvement and participation in activities, student councils, and other student organizations on campus
  • Conduct wellness checks of students when needed in collaboration with Student Affairs office to ensure well-being of students and help identify and address issues impacting academic progress

Student Development:

  • Serve as a hearing officer for the student conduct process and provide facilitation for conflict resolution and mediation. Resolution of all minor infractions of hall and College policies Potentially serve as a Hearing officer in formal adjudication processes
  • Collaborate with other members of the campus community to promote the academic success and overall development of students
  • Identify and address the developmental needs of students through educational interactions, crisis response protocol, and mediations
  • Ensure that developmental, social and educational programming is provided through the RA staff
  • Assist in management of student success and retention efforts
  • Demonstrate commitment to the development of students and student groups. Provide counsel and advice in the broad areas of academic, career, and personal concerns, or refer them to the appropriate office

Leadership/Professional Development

  • Participate in various Residential Life functions including, but not limited to, Resident Assistant selection and training, housing assignment processes, social media outreach and departmental marketing, and collaborative campus events planning and management
  • Assist in the development and implementation of goals and priorities for the individual zone area halls, overall zone, department and division
  • Participate in departmental meetings, professional development opportunities, and any mandatory professional development events sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs

Administrative/Organization

  • Serve in on-call crisis response duty rotation after business hours
  • Respond to crises, incidents, and facility needs in residence halls
  • Coordinate and oversee the administrative responsibilities, including room changes, damage billing, incident reports, conduct paperwork, etc.
  • In conjunction with Public Safety, coordinate fire drills at the start of each term
  • Hold regular office hours for student and student staff walk-ins
  • Conduct weekly walk-throughs/inspections of all halls in assigned area
  • Conduct exterior building inspections twice a month
  • Report and follow up on facility and maintenance issues until resolved and share student needs and recommendations
  • Acts as the on-site liaison to the Department of Public Safety regarding issues affecting the safety and security of resident students
  • Facilitate Health and Safety inspections with student staff in accordance with Residential Life policies and protocol
  • Consistently enforces policies which prevent and react to damage and vandalism in order to decrease occurrences

  • A genuine interest in Residence Life and the multifaceted lifestyle required to manage residence halls
  • Required to live on campus. Accommodations vary dependent on assignment
  • Flexible time management skills
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Prior residential life or similar staff experience required
