Description
The Associate Director executes the Competitive Intelligence (CI) vision and strategy in alignment with stakeholder priorities. This role works closely with Business Development matrix teams (including leaders and teams in Business Development, Corporate Strategy, Discovery Research, Clinical Development, Commercial, and Forecasting) to support decision makers in assessing external opportunities.
Core Activities:
Assesses the competitive environment, including performing asset screens, aiding assessment of Business Development opportunities, and closely tracking emerging scientific data and financial disclosures to inform Business Development activities for BMS
Develops and delivers analyses of Business Development activities, MOA landscapes and therapeutic modalities to enable objective assessments of external opportunities
Analyzes industry investments and trends to elucidate potential opportunities and risks of new investments
Empowers earlier awareness of emerging science through coverage of scientific meetings
Gathers information and translates it into actionable insights and recommendations for key stakeholders
Serves as a single point of contact for key client groups in customer-driven CI support model
Works closely with indication-aligned CI colleagues to ensure consistent divisional representation of therapeutic advances to disparate decision makers
Implements all elements of internal CI model based on consultative engagement with key stakeholders, leading internal intelligence networks, coordinating the communication of intelligence, managing external CI vendors/partners, and leveraging relevant internal IT tools and platforms
Innovates within CI to help propel the group to “World Class” status (e.g., visualizations, interactive datasets, predictive analytics)
Responds to ad hoc key business questions with expert analysis
Qualifications
BA/BS required, MBA, PharmD, PhD or other advanced degree preferred
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, with at least 2 in a corporate environment (biotech, pharmaceutical, banking or consulting)
Technical knowledge in one or more BMS therapeutic areas and/or cell or gene therapy and direct experience working in these fields is preferred
Intellectually nimble – applies superior analytical ability to quickly become well-versed in new areas
Highly collaborative, and is able to lead and influence teams, including a broad array of domain area experts, across a matrix environment
Able to think strategically
Experience successfully supporting business decision making in a complex and dynamic corporate environment
Demonstrated understanding of pharmaceutical development and commercialization process, as well as industry competitive dynamics, preferably through direct industry experience.
Demonstrated ability to conduct competitive analyses and generate actionable recommendations
Able to organize and distill key information to convey insights with written and oral communications
Excellent project management skills
Familiar with basic business software tools and environments (e.g., MS Office) and pharmaceutical CI data sources (e.g., Cortellis, commercially available clinical trial databases)
Able to travel approximately 20% of time
