TITLE: Athletic Director
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
At least 5 years’ experience as an administrator and/or head coach on the high school varsity level, or college program
Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Coaches and staff assigned to the Athletic Department
SALARY: Individual Contract
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organizes and administers the overall program of interscholastic athletics at the high school and middle school level
- Provides leadership in conjunction with the high school Principal in the selection, assignment, supervision and evaluation of athletic coaches
- Conducts preseason meeting of all coaches and assistant coaches, as well as with student athletes and their parents/guardians
- Works with the high school and middle school principal and Superintendent in the development and implementation of the Athletic Handbook
- Coordinates the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events and facilities use, including field and gym practice schedules
- Coordinates with Central Office all permits for field and facility use
- Assumes, along with the school administration, general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games
- Enforces appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities
- Arranges transportation for athletic teams
- Oversees details of visiting teams’ needs, including gymnasium services and field assistance, as appropriate
- Maintains an accurate inventory of all athletic equipment. Plans for and ensures proper maintenance of that equipment.
- Coordinates the maintenance and upkeep of athletic fields and gymnasium at Stoughton High School, along with the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations
- Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program, including promoting direct connections with youth sports organizations
- Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, students, parents and community members
- Prepares and administers the athletic program budget, including long and short-term plans, and requisitions program supplies and equipment
- Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the athletic program, and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds
- Verifies each athlete’s eligibility according to the requirements adopted by the Stoughton Public School District and/or the MIAA, including academic eligibility, physical examinations and baseline and post-concussion testing
- Keeps records of the results of all high school athletic contests, and maintains a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award including athletic scholarships
- In cooperation with coaches, plans and supervises recognition programs for school athletes
- Must be able to work outside in adverse weather conditions, lift up to twenty-five pounds from floor to overhead, move around school and athletic facilities, travel within district as well as out of district to athletic events
