The Department of Commerce, Division of Consumer Protection is filling their Auditor III position.   • This position may be in the office for training and then may convert to teleworking up to 3 days per week (if eligibility requirements are met).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
In this position, you will perform a full range of audit tasks with minimal supervision. As the Auditor III for the Division of Consumer Protection, you will assist in audit planning, plan and manage programs and projects, provide training, and lead personnel. You will prepare summaries and reports, making recommendations for improvement, and assessing penalties where appropriate.

Duties may include but not be limited to the following:
  • Conducting audits of the following areas to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations and determine the effectiveness of procedures: fiscal data, accounting systems and records, charitable solicitations registrations, postsecondary school registrations, debt management companies, life skills programs, other registrations and financials.
  • Supporting complex investigations by examination of investigative documents for potential deceptive and unfair practices, or other department activities.
  • Analyzing, summarizing and/or reviewing data; reporting findings, interpreting results and/or making recommendations.
  • Writing or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials.
  • Gathering documentation to support negotiated resolution of non-compliance issues.
  • Testifying and presenting evidence in informal administrative hearings.
  • Speaking with representatives or organizations to schedule meetings, explaining observations, and discussing audits.
  • Participating in outreach activities.
  • Providing recommendations for further investigation or civil proceedings.
  • Investigating violations of statutes regulated by the Division.
  • Providing assistance to the public regarding applicable laws and rules.
  • Receiving, researching, and responding to incoming questions or complaints, providing information, explaining policy and procedures, and facilitating resolution.
  • Preparing and analyzing data to assist in measuring the division's performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Can deal quickly with complex matters;
  • Has a sound background in applying accounting principles;
  • Can effectively communicate with regulated parties;
  • Has experience reviewing financial statements;
  • Has the ability to analyze data; and
  • Is proficient with Microsoft Excel.
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to CPAs or candidates with at least 10 years of practical accounting experience.

  • As a condition of employment with the Department of Commerce, employees shall receive compensatory time off in lieu of payment in cash for all overtime worked under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
