- High School graduation or equivalent.
- Four years conducting background investigations as a full-time police officer or performing employment applicant investigative work in a government or investigative agency.
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of investigation and research, including interviewing, conflict management and negotiation;
- Electronic information systems to access data;
- Principles of record keeping and report writing;
- Statistical analysis and data collection;
- Computer and office automation technology and software programs;
- Relevant federal, state and local laws, codes, and ordinances related to the legal requirements of background investigations and hiring practices.
- Utilize appropriate investigative techniques to capture an accurate image of the candidate's background;
- Conduct interviews in a manner that places people at ease and encourages cooperation;
- Communicate tactfully, persuasively, and effectively;
- Observe body language when looking for signs of truthfulness and credibility;
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills required to discuss matters which are of a sensitive and sometimes of an inflammatory nature;
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity through tact and courtesy when dealing with individuals from various social, cultural, racial, and economical backgrounds;
- Manage time, balance workload and handle several cases concurrently;
- Compare and interpret information, examine discrepancies, and draw logical conclusions;
- Prepare detailed and complete interview statements, write concise reports and summarize findings/ recommendations.
- Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or closely related field.
- DPSST certification.
