Community Mainstreaming is a Non-Profit Human Service Agency committed to providing services to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities lead meaningful productive lives within their community.
The Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) is responsible for providing positive strategies and supports to enrich the lives of the people with developmental disabilities. The BIS, under the guidance and direction of the clinical psychologist, develops person-centered behavioral supports to increase and maintain functional behaviors and develop interventions to prevent or reduce challenging behaviors. The BIS will support the person towards improving their independence and promote community inclusion.
Areas of Responsibilities:

• Conduct functional Behavioral Assessments for individuals with challenging behaviors.

• Develop and implement behavioral support plans in areas such as: emotional stability, effective use of time, socialization, and conflict resolution.
• Provide measurable behavioral goals and implement and monitor behavioral data tracking systems.
• Provide on-site, hands-on training to all support staff.
• Provide onsite in-service training to staff at the discretion of the Senior Director of Support Services and/or the clinical psychologist. Examples of topics include maintaining therapeutic environments, proactive interactions, advocacy, de-escalation techniques, and other topics related to behavioral health (SCIP-R).
• Maintain regular contact with psychological therapeutic supports including psychologist and day support services that provide individual and group counseling. Coordinate psychological care with programs, families and other relevant supports involved in the provision of and advocacy for the person supported.
• Provide oversight of psychiatric medications including written reports summarizing behavioral support data and any acute psychiatric interventions such as emergency hospitalizations, to the treating psychiatrist. Attend psychiatric appointments and or prepare consults with pertinent information to share with the psychiatrist.
• Provide crisis intervention and train staff in addressing challenging behaviors and emergency care. Must be available on-call for crisis.
• Prepare presentations on restrictive interventions and medication approvals for the Human Rights Committee.
• An active member of the interdisciplinary team and attends annual, semi-annual, and weekly team meetings as assigned.
• Ensure all behavioral support services documentation/records are current, accurate and well-organized for documentation retrieval on-site and electronically.
• Provide therapeutic supports to all residents and/or day services participants on an as needed basis.

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in a clinical or treatment field in psychology, school psychology, applied psychology.
• Minimum one-year experience directly supporting individuals with developmental disabilities
• Training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development and implementation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Must be able to travel to multiple sites
