- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years of experience working with students experiencing behavior difficulties.
- Must hold or be able to obtain and maintain a registered behavior technician certification within three months of hire. Ten days may be added to the contract, if necessary, to obtain initial training prior to the start of the first school year in this position.
- Must successfully complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain current CPR/first aid certification.
- Must possess a current Alaska driver’s license.
- A bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field such as psychology.
- Three years of experience providing interventions to school age children experiencing behavior difficulties.
- Knowledge and understanding of contextual variables surrounding behavior.
- Knowledge and understanding of function of behavior.
- Knowledge and understanding of typical development, behavioral principles, and exceptional students.
- Experience in data collection.
- Knowledge of reasonable accommodations in a school setting relating to student behavior.
- Works under the direction of district Board Certified Behavior Analyst(s).
- Collaborates with school teams to implement behavior supports.
- Provides on-site training, modeling, and coaching to school teams working with students with complex behavioral support needs.
- Implements behavior plans for students in collaboration with the case manager, school psychologist, and behavior analyst team.
- Supports the implementation of new programs.
- Utilizes effective oral and written communication.
- Maintains student records on the effect of behavior intervention plans (collects, compiles, and shares data).

Job Summary
The Behavior Strategist assists in the implementation of analytical behavioral interventions and programs for Anchorage School District students of all ages and grades who are experiencing disabilities. The strategist will provide on-site training, modeling, and coaching as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator, BCBA. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

Physical/Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
