Position Summary:

*CLINIC BASED SERVICES*

The Behavior Technician functions as a team member on the ABA client's interdisciplinary Autism treatment team, providing direct ABA therapy to children with Autism under the supervision of the Licensed Behavior Analyst. The Behavior Technician also provides childhood education through enriched activities for children to prepare all enrolled for success in kindergarten.

The Behavior Technician uses the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis within a family centered approach. The Behavior Technician implements treatment plans for providing in-clinic, direct therapy that:

  • improves function and enhances activities of daily life.
  • focus on the individuals' and the families' stated needs,
  • are individualized to address each client's unique needs, overcoming acknowledged weaknesses by identifying and building strengths,
  • involve the client's natural support system of family and friends to ensure generalization of skills learned in therapy sessions,
  • are accountable (measurable, meaningful changes are demonstrated).

Essential Job Functions

  • Promotes a unified, team-oriented atmosphere in all communications and actions.
  • Provides quality therapy and childhood education for clients of Easterseals North Texas in whatever capacity is required in accordance with skills and training.
  • Works under the supervision of a Licensed Behavior Analyst and the Assistant Case Manager, with each assigned child in the center on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Maintains awareness of trends and best practices.

Direct Services

  • Uses appropriate instructional materials, which would benefit the child’s attainment of skills in all domains as established by the Licensed Behavior Analyst and the Program Director.
  • Engages children in developmentally appropriate activities designed to enhance verbal communication, social skills, and prepare them for success in kindergarten.
  • Provides feedback to the Licensed Behavior Analyst, Assistant Case Manager, and family on interactions with the child.
  • Collects and graphs data as directed by Licensed Behavior Analyst.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of staff in a manner that promotes a team spirit and a sense of cooperation.

Indirect Services

  • Provides support services in other areas as requested by supervisor.
  • Maintains room arrangement.
  • Helps with preparation of materials.
  • Maintains general cleanliness of building and materials.
  • Participates in Easterseals North Texas meetings and on committees as required and appropriate (e.g. weekly progress meetings and additional meetings with the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team).
  • Arrives on time and ready to start work.
  • Is professional in appearance and demeanor.

Compliance

  • Ensures client and family confidentiality by complying with Easterseals policies and procedures, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accessibility Act) requirements, and any other privacy requirements as may be specified by referral sources, funders, or other licensing and regulatory entities.
  • Ensures the safety and security of clients, staff, volunteers and visitors by knowing and following all safety procedures as required by Easterseals policies and procedures and any other referral sources, funders, or other licensing and regulatory entities, and understands the consequences of non-compliance.
  • Adheres to code of ethics policies and procedures as defined in the ESNT Employee Policy Manual and by other regulating agencies.
  • Collects data and records client testing results, treatments, responses, and progress on designated forms as directed by Licensed Behavior Analyst.
  • Attends Plan of Care review meetings as required.
  • Provides exceptional service, both internally and externally.
  • Maintains an effective and professional working relationship with consumers and their families, care providers, co-workers, and referral sources.

Training

  • Attends and participates in general staff meetings/ staff trainings.
  • Attends local and national conferences designed to further knowledge of Autism, Applied Behavior Analysis, and Child Development.
  • Participates in Registered Behavior Technician training until certification is achieved and receives additional training, as indicated, to maintain certification.
  • Attends 24 clock hours of training as required by the State of Texas.

Education and Experience:

  • At a minimum; possess High School degree or GED. Prefer individual enrolled in undergraduate program with emphasis in Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Early Childhood Development, Autism, or Developmental Disabilities.
  • Prefer individual with Registered Behavior Technician credential from the Behavior Analysis Certification Board.
  • If not in possession, must obtain the Registered Behavior Technician credential within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older as required by the State of Texas.
  • Must pass criminal background check including fingerprinting and drug screening, as required by the State of Texas.
  • Must successfully complete CPR/ First Aid training requirements and obtain certification.
  • Must possess a current valid Texas driver’s license, proof of insurance, and have a driving record that meets the standards of the agency.
  • Must handle information in a confidential manner.
  • Must have exceptional organizational skills, communication skills (oral and written) and memory required.
  • Prefer experience working with children ages 6 weeks to 6 years of age, or individuals diagnosed with autism.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of:
  • mission, vision, and goals of Easterseals North Texas and The Fedcap Group and execution of relevant policies and procedures.
  • strong organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Windows 2000 NT operating system and Office 97 products including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, or ability to learn independently.

  • demonstrate an ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; run; kneel; climb; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This job operates in a clinical/classroom setting. This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are typically 8 hours daily, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. but will be determined by your supervisor. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel:

Travel is primarily local throughout the DFW area and, if required, occurs during the business day.
